I'm not a big fan of Brooklyn as a show either but one of the castmembers is a friend of a friend and I think it's pretty bad for theatre fans, in general, to be wishing the show does poorly. Why root for a show to fail? Lots of shows fill their seats with discounted tickets. Anyone who's ever near the TKTS booth knows that. Brooklyn certainly isn't the only one.

True, lots of shows may fill their seats with a large amount of discount tickets; but Brooklyn just opened a few weeks ago, amid a fair amount of press coverage (i.e., the NYTimes ran a big article about two weeks prior to opening about Eden in the starring role, plus many critics were looking forward to the production and wrote several pieces on it). I'm not sure if it's normal at all for a show that is extremely new that was very much hyped to be selling that many discount tickets to the show. Just my own speculation of course...

Oh, I am paying attention. I've seen comments like this about a lot of shows over the years from individuals who don't like the show, or who think that a show doesn't deserve to survive. I understand the surprise at the 97% figure, but it was one week. If it continues, then perhaps there's a reason for surprise. I'm just saying that comments like 'garbage dump', 'end of the world', and 'losing faith in mankind' are a little silly.

As for the discounted tickets, it's not unusual to see new shows have them available at TKTS. In addition to Brooklyn, other new shows which have been on the board recently are Dame Edna, Laugh Whore, 'Night Mother, Pacific Overtures, The Good Body, and Whoopi, some of which haven't even officially opened yet.

Which is one of the reasons they're on TKTS. VERY few shows start out with 100% attendance from the first preview. The BIG difference with all the shows you mentioned is none of them have had the publicity that Brooklyn has had.

And look REALLY closely at what we have said about Brooklyn. We have slated the show, we have expressed disbelief at how high its attendance is, but we haven't wished the show was doing worse or that it would close.

and it hasn't even managed to crack the $55.00 average ticket price since it's first preview... i believe it's highest average was $53.84 ...

how do you jnow they liked it? they aren't all return customers. Many of them are going to see it for the first time. maybe they left the theatre thinkiing "what the hell was this trash?? oh.. I mean the sets AND the show."

no offense bwayguy but, have you seen it? I'm sorry Gavin Creel or Machota isnt in it..ya might like it better in that case.
