Posted: 6/20/05 at 6:44pmThanks for posting this, Margo. I was surprised to see that Piazza was down 4 per cent. Anyone have any ideas why? The numbers are still over 90 per cent, so hardly anything to worry about, but most musicals were either up or stayed roughly the same.

I didn't realize James Earl Jones was out sick last week:
"It's not the sound of the loons that are attracting people to the Cort Theatre; it's mostly James Earl Jones. Last week, the star missed seven of eight performances due to pneumonia and the On Golden Pond box office suffered as a result. It was down $54,642 as compared to the previous week (when Jones missed only one performance) to come in at $162,053. The show also filled the 1067-seat Cort to 36.11% capacity on average. No doubt there will be an upswing when Jones returns, which is expected to happen later this week."

Posted: 6/20/05 at 9:51pmI am proud to be part of the 101.5% of people who saw Spamalot last week!

Posted: 6/20/05 at 10:07pmIt is seriously strange that the top ticket price for Spamalot for the last 2 weeks (the only 2 weeks BWW has had the weekly grosses listed as well), is only $101.25. Strange strange strange.

Posted: 6/20/05 at 11:05pmI'm surprised and glad that Streetcar is maintaining at around 70% despite the reviews of the play compared to other plays which are around the 40% attendance. I liked the production.

I am SO happy for Chitty right now!

Posted: 6/21/05 at 6:46amI don't understand how Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf is doing such poor business. It opened to amazing reviews and strong box office, so why has it died so dramatically and so quickly?
#13re: Broadway Grosses June 13 to 19
Posted: 6/21/05 at 9:19amI think its so sad that plays with good reviews like Virginia Woolf can't find an audience and drek like Chitty can. It says a lot about Broadway audiences.

Posted: 6/21/05 at 11:13amYou're right, it does say a lot about Broadway audiences. You'd think producers would eventualy get the message, and put on stuff that Broadway audiences want to see.
