Posted: 1/9/06 at 6:27pmI don't understand how shows like Doubt can be up 13% but still make less money than they did the previous week? How does that work?

Those numbers are much better than I expected. I hope everything can stay pretty stable throughout the winter season.

Posted: 1/9/06 at 8:43pmWoman in White 70%,that's really not good. I wonder if they're gonna try to come up with some marketing campaign because if the show is forced to close anytime soon it will probably lose all its investment.

Posted: 1/9/06 at 11:14pmEh... well, if you realize that on the Christmas week it was doing 77% (as I recall?) that's not a TERRIBLE fall-off. January is the month I expect much larger number falls than 7%...

Posted: 1/9/06 at 11:18pmFor a show as big and costy as Woman in White doing 77% capacity is bad news, so 70% is pretty bad, I doubt the show is breaking even.

Why isnt Avenue Q on the list?
EDIT: As I posted there was a Woman in White commercial...

No, I wasn't disagreeing that the show is still definately lagging, I was just pointing out that the fallout wasn't as bad as *I* had expected. I totally agree that a consistant 70% attendance ain't the way to make it through the season.

Posted: 1/9/06 at 11:40pmI think the worst of it for Woman in White is the fast that, yes, 70% of the audience was full, but look at their average ticket price-- ouch! Less than $60.00. That means most of the ticket they sold were either the cheap seats, or seats at TKTS. If they're already selling that poorly, I don't think they'll make it another month. It's too risky. It's pretty sad, actually. I loved it.

Posted: 1/10/06 at 12:48amI think it's hard to judge whats going on with WIW because you see 77% but that theatre is huge. Especially in comparison to theatres like where Avenue Q plays.

But Avenue Q has a third the running cost and capitalization of WIW. Not to mention, Avenue Q has already recouped, so every week above break even is just pure profit in the investors' pockets for them.
WIW has barely begun to even begin to repay cost at this point, will have trouble doing so during the coming winter months and with an average ticket price under $60 has a troubling-looking future. It's 70.8% attendance last week and $542K gross means they probably broke even, but little more.
Given its deep pocket investors, the show will surely make it to the Tony telecast. If it gets nominated and has a chance to perform, it'll make it though summer and beyond, but if it doesn't win a few major awards and the box office begins to slip, we'll see where it stands financially a year from now and whether it can brave another winter.

Posted: 1/10/06 at 3:01amWell Sunset was a soldout hit its first year (and only later lost millions). WIW isn't remotely even that.

Posted: 1/10/06 at 3:10amIt will be interesting to see the changes in B/O both this week and next week of DRS with Norbert out this week and John leaving Sunday. WiW though...wow. It does not look good.
