I think that "Wizard of Oz" should be revived. It's been 103 years.

Or, at the very least, bring the "Sing-a-Long" back !!!
Yeah, I confused by that Ed. I love Wicked. I was just saying i was surprised a show can continue to sell out for 5 years.

It is quite an accomplishment- The word of mouth for this show has just been amazing for the last five years. I have a lot of clients that I deal with that live outisde of NY, and whenever any of them are visiting NYC, all you hear them mention is "Wicked".
They must all be "stupid" as well, right Ed?

Testing, it's made tons of money, so who's the stupid one?

I dont know... you tell me, Ed.
You are the one that posted this (while not even realizing that Fordy was a big fan of the show)
<< Amen to that, Fordy. There are more stupid people out there that bright ones and a stupid show will fill it to the rafters every time.
>>
To state that a show is selling out because there are enough "stupid" people out there to fill the theatre is a pretty ignorant statement.
It really amazes me how bitchy, mean, uppity, snotty, rude, nasty, hateful people that are on this message board.
I mean, post after post after post of people making comments or having questions, or suggestions, or showing "love for a show", or needing information, or trying to understand the biz, or mispelling a few words, or whatever, and there is ALWAYS that NASTY, "KNOW IT ALL" that thinks his or her opinion is the only one that matters. Its crazy.
This in not meant directly to anyone in this thread but this thread is an example of how off track a thread can get, including this post, because someone has to jump in with a snide remark.
I have lots of hobbies and visit many message boards on those subjects, this place takes the cake on unfriendly folks. Damn.
back to our regularly scheduled thread....(this undoubtly belonged in its own thread, am I am sure someone will let me know, but felt like ranting...)
thanks.
p.s. let me apologize now for any typos, etc.

Fyffe: BWW members are like a box of chocolates: you never know what you're going to get. There are many BWW members who don't fall in the categories that you mentioned and are generally decent. I just tune out the negative minded people, as much as I can. As a last resort, you could make voodoo dolls of the most irritating members. : ) from RC in Austin, Texas... P.S. I need to get back to bed.
It's odd (or is it just me) that IN THE HEIGHTS enjoyed only like three weeks or so selling out the theater. Now it's back down to mid-70's percentwise. Although it's grosses are very strong for that theater.

Fy,
I totally agree with you, and let my apologize for contributing to steering this thread in another direction, but it is just plain wrong to call people stupid for going to see a show that someone else doesnt like.
Ok--- back to regularly scheduled topic
random question...was anyone at ashley and gavin's final 'mary poppins' performance this weekend? was there any kind of speech or special mention or anything?
just curious
Maybe someone here knows better about this than I do. I heard an ad on the radio awhile ago that at Spamalot, they are doing free tickets for children under 18, with a paying adult. I forget how long that offer was lasting, but could that affect ticket sales? Like, tickets they would normally sell, they are giving away for a limited time. Or do things like that count anyway in the grosses a show makes? What I mean is the ticket counts as a sale, but sells at $0. I was just wondering if that could affect sales or not.
Okay, I'll just admit that I am sad about the Spamalot grosses. I like that show a lot, but at least it has played a good 3 years, so far. I have no idea if how it is doing currently will definitely close it. I don't even want to start guessing.
It would raise the attendance but not the gross.
Testing....yes, to answer your question, I do feel it is wrong for calling someone stupid for seeing or liking a show. Why would anyone even think to do that? Maybe it makes them feel superior or something, anyhoo, I don't get it. Everyone has different tastes. Everyone.
No one should be called stupid for not knowing or understanding the business side of things either. We should be educating these people instead of knocking them down. That was a long answer to your simple question...lol.
Kev (who obviously feels strongly about this)
