re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 11/2

I kind of figured that Friday probably had an affect on this past week, along with other events that were happening too.

Most theaters were deserted on Friday night, and it makes sense that the family shows (Poppins, Mermaid) would take a huge dive....what kid wants to see The Little Mermaid when they could dress up as Ariel and go out and get candy? Fridays are big nights for those shows, so it makes sense they'd be down drastically.

re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 11/2

You couldn't get a hotel to save your life in the city this weekend because of the marathon, so that's definitely an influence.

I finally won the In the Heights lottery on Saturday afternoon because no one was there. Halloween didn't kill just Friday night, it killed at least the Saturday matinee if not Saturday entirely because people went out the night before. Then Sunday is was impossible to go anywhere because of people running.

Just got back from 13 and the theatre district was deserted despite many shows moving their Tuesday show to tonight to avoid competition.

I have faith that next weekend things will get better.

How in the hell is TO BE OR NOT TO BE staying over 40%?

Subscribers.

They're the only reason the show is still open.

"American Buffalo" - What a mistake. Can not sell. Won't sell. Will not see 2009.
"The 39 Steps" - Why are they transferring? They should just close in January.
"13" - Early 2009, around February
"Avenue Q" - Sad to see this one go around Spring
"Boeing-Boeing" - Doing better and will probably make it 'til spring
"A Tale of Two Cities" - Another one to go in Spring
"August" - Around June/July
"Grease" - Around July
"Chicago" - Around August/September
"Young Frankenstein" - Around September, another LB, close just as the tour starts
"MP" - Around September/October
"Gypsy" - I'd say around October/November
"The Little Mermaid' - Late 2009, around November/December
"In the Heights" - Some time in the 2010/2011 season, which would mean a run of 3 years, which is still pretty good
"The Phantom of the Opera" - Probably around the 2011/2012 season, because it can't play forever
"South Pacific" - 2011/2012 Season, also
"Mamma Mia!" - 2012/2013 Season, probably
"Billy Elliot" - 2012/2013 Season, which would mean a run of around 4 years, which is still good
"The Lion King" - I'm guessing this one will be here for another 6 years or so
"Jersey Boys" - Will be here for about 8-10 more years
"Wicked" - I'd say it has 20-30 years left

MTF3:

THE 39 STEPS is easily the cheapest show currently running on Broadway.

They have to pay four actors, and two understudies.

Their break-even is very, very low.

They're transferring to the smallest house on Broadway.

The show still has some life left in it.

WannaBe, don't waste your time using logic to appeal to MTF3... it doesn't work when they don't have any sense of logic whatsoever.
