Yikes, this is dreadful. Even Wicked, Mamma Mia, and Jersey Boys decreased slightly.

Good Lord.

Is it all the economy? or is something else at play here?

Ouch! That one hurt.

Double whammy last week of Halloween on a Friday night and the end of Daylight Saving Time. Times Square was a ghost town around curtain time on Friday. And for some reason, the changing of the clocks has an effect on grosses. People lose their collective minds and avoid going to the theatre, I guess for fear of not knowing what time their show may be starting. But check it historically, and you'll always see grosses tumble during the weeks the clock change. Grosses will slowly build from now to Thanksgiving, tumble again for the first two weeks of December, and then build again for the holiday weeks, before falling off again in January.

Wow.

Terrible. I guess this explains why SPRING AWAKENING closed...apparently the advance numbers were NOT good. Ouch.

I guess we can be expecting a closing notice for A TALE OF TWO CITIES (and THIRTEEN) sometime this week or next.

I was commenting on Friday night that I have never seen (other than the strike!) the theatres so empty---

No one at the box offices, and very small lines/crowds outside the theatres.

I really think that since 13 & ATOTC haven't announced a closing date, that both shows are holding out that they make some kind of money during the holidays. Regardless, both shows will likely close in January.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

I really don't think A TALE OF TWO CITIES and/or THIRTEEN will hold out for another two/three months.

At least one of them will be posting a closing notice by Thanksgiving.

re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 11/2

Yikes. Next week's grosses will be skewed also, with people opting to stay home Tuesday to watch the Election results.

13 and ATOTC are predictable notices... but I wouldn't be surprised if the flying nanny is (remotely) thinking about packing her carpet-bag (with a pair of potty-mouth puppets in-tow). That screaming pill-popping matriarch may well be out soon too.

Dammit.

Halloween takes a toll on family shows, I would assume. I'd be interested in seeing Friday's receipts.

I'm not sure 13 and A TALE OF TWO CITIES will leave as quickly as they should. 13 must be really cheap to run and I'm sure the producers are waiting for the kids to get their Christmas break and see the show. A TALE OF TWO CITIES is obviously more expensive to run, but if the producers didn't post a closing notice after the dreadful reviews and the plummeting grosses, I imagine they are injecting endless money into the show (as Michael Riedel said they meant to do from the start) through the holidays or until the owners of the Hirschfeld kicks them out due to their inability to bring in $$$ into their theatre.
I doubt MARY POPPINS will pack soon, especially with Thanksgiving/Christmas just around the corner. The show is a tourist trap and their tourists are coming soon enough. I don't see it lasting as long as they thought it would though.
I am genuinely worried about AUGUST: OC re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 11/2

If The 39 Steps keeps slipping will they even bother moving theaters again?

AUGUST will probably be closing in January or February as well...and while I will be sad to see it go, it had a PHENOMENAL run. Especially for where it started financially, where it is now is really impressive.

>If The 39 Steps keeps slipping will they even bother moving theaters again?<

But it hasn't been slipping. Most weeks it has been in the mid $200,000 range. And it's very cheap to run. One week down won't hurt it. Even at $182,000, where other shows dropped more than six figures, it made more than just about any week at [title of show] or most of the non-star casting weeks at Xanadu.

re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 11/2

An important factor in the crappy grosses that hasn't been mentioned:

From Thursday through Sunday, all the tourists in town were either participating in or connected to the NYC Marathon. They were focused on carbs and running, not going to the theater. The hotels were full, but not with the typical NYC visitors. Since about 60% or more of audiences are traditionally out-of-towners, the drop in attendence makes sense.

re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 11/2

Is there any logic in keeping a show running just to get to the holidays? Risking a few million in losses just to make a few hundred thousand dollars? If these losing shows stay open it would be just for producer's ego- so that they can say their show ran for 100 performances. Guess those syrupy ads for MP aren't working...if they are so concerned about people in these worrisome times, why don't they lower their ticket prices? Little Mermaid is doomed to a Titanic death....Can Cloris save YF?- No- Why would she want to do this? Grease- gone by Jan. Ave.Q- also gone....BE will not be as big a hit as they want it to be...Shrek- big floperroo.....There will be only 20 shows open in Jan.-Spring will not be any better- no one has $$$-French tourists do not see shows. They don't tip in restaurants either.
