Whatever one thinks of Ms. Salonga, and I think a lot of her, why on earth would anyone think her missing shows would have any meaning at the box-office?  Seriously.  She is not Bernadette Peters or Patti LuPone, you know.  She is not a draw.

7 show weeks are common for preview periods.

Jersey Boys is starting to weaken badly. If the numbers continue to go south after the holidays, it may signal the beginning of the end. Still and all, who thought a jukebox musical about the 4 seasons would still be running 10 years later.

Does anyone suppose that China Doll might even release a discount code after their reviews come out? A quick check on Telecharge shows that January is not currently selling very well, and we all can infer how the reviews are going to be.

I don't think that the reviews are going to effect China doll too badly. al pacino is such an iconic actor and the show has been pulling $ 1 million + every week so far pretty much on his name alone and it's a limited run.

I don't think reviews will effect it too badly but possibly enough to warrant some mid-winter discounts. Since January isn't currently selling too well and since the reviews will not likely give the show a boost I would consider it a possibility, kinda like The River last year.

What show are you talking about? Dames?

A shot hit in the dark, here, but is it possible (especially last week) people have been avoiding the TS area due to all that has happened around the world last week?

Pootie2 said: "Again, Lea Salonga was out of Allegiance from Thursday through Sunday. That's kind of the bulk of the show week. If her presence ends up being a/the major anchor in keeping the show open due to the mixed reviews, last week is hardly normal."

Even with Lea, it's grosses haven't been all that impressive.

Lea last anchored a BW show 20 plus years ago, think the world of her but I question whether she's that much of a draw anymore on sheer name power.

She is a name to many of the demographic groups they are targeting. Her name is above the title. If you plan to see the show and see the message that she will be out, I am sure many ticket buyers would select another date. I think that contributed some to the drop, but the show is almost certainly not grossing enough to meet its costs regardless.

Greased

Dames has been struggling since day 1. Even terrorists running around TS would not keep people from seeing "The Show" No one wanted to see Dames pure and simple.

Seeing Fool For Love Wednesday. If we get a good deal we go. We do not worry about what is happening. When your time is up that's it.

neon: "7 show weeks are common for preview periods."

not true. not a good idea to make statement that are demonstrably and easily shown to be incorrect.

No. not true. not a good idea to make statement that are demonstrably and easily shown to be incorrect. (not sure what planet you walk around on, but on mine I have to push people out of the way to simply get up and down or across Times Square, and if anything it was worse this week than the several previous ones.) Over 5000 more butts were in seats last week than in the same frame a year ago.

To Evic

The producers of Amazing kept the show afloat even though they knew it was a lost cause. If someone has deep pockets and believes in a project, they will do it. If the show does indeed tour, this may have had something to do with it.

I'm all the more glad I decided to include "Dames" and "Allegiance" on my upcoming trip.  I am very much looking forward to seeing those shows!

Except that, ironically, it wasn't the reply that was ignorant.

Why is it so hard for people to reply to queries without asserting intellectual or moral superiority?

The decision to bring "Dames at Sea" to B'way in the industry's climate of 2015 remains a mystery.  I was one of the head-scratchers for "Gigi," but "Gigi" seems like savvy producing in comparison.  I don't understand how a pastiche that was quaint 40 years ago was perceived as box office. There was no target audience, no demographic to whom to pitch any aspect of the show.  It's not for boomers, who were teens when it came around the first time.  I would think it would be a "who cares" even at, say, Papermill (admitting it would be lost in the cavernous quarters).  But in NYC?  Now? Why?   .

I assume by the time the reviews come in, it'll have almost recouped.

I don't know. It doesn't bother me that I was called ignorant by Greased. I guess when someone is called out for saying something that even cursory inspection of the facts would reveal to be unsupportable, they feel the need to lash out. Incidentally, nothing intellectual or moral at play here; it is just plain and simple facts.

Is it just me or is everyone's avatar is "missing"?   I do notice that Rob's picture does show up.

Take a look at historical grosses. They go up for Thanksgiving, but crash down for the first 2-3 weeks of December, then up for Christmas week and way up for New Year's week.
