woo!! and i cannot believe it.. Gypsy is the LOWEST and 13 even beat equus!!
but im glad to see a few 100% in there!!!
but in all honestly, shrek is making a TON of money... if they made over a million at that percentage, just THINK of what they would make with 100% capacity

Great Thanksgiving weekend! A lot of shows needed this to help dig out of the recent holes they have been in.
Props to 13, Chicago, Grease, Mary Poppins, Shrek, Spamalot, 39 Steps, Little Mermaid and Phantom.

Pianolin-
Even though Gypsy only went up 4%, its grosses still increased over $110,000. I do agree, that this show does not deserve to be anywhere near the bottom of the list. I revisted it on Saturday and it has been getting better and better as the run has progressed.

13 didn't even come close to "beating" Equus... it grossed $150,000 more and sold 1,300 more seats.
But wow... 10 shows grossed over $1 million!! Possibly even 11, if Young Frank benefitted at all from its closing announcement and the holiday.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure WICKED broke box office records around a year or so ago with a little over the amount they made this week.
I could be wrong but I thought they took in the most any show has ever taken in over a week with somewhere between 1.8 and 1.9 million.
This was a weird but technically speaking pretty strong week.

"At the end of the week of January 1, 2006, it broke all records for the highest weekly box office gross including the record previously held by “The Producers,” earning $1,610,934. It went on to break its own record in the week ending November 26, 2006, grossing $1,715,155."
I believe that Wicked did, indeed, break another box office record.

Wow, so happy for IN THE HEIGHTS.
I was surprised that SHREK did over $1'000'000 filling the theatre at 80%, that must mean that people were actually paying full price (unless they added an extra performance). Good for them, Jeanine Tesori deserves a hit on Broadway.
As expected the touristy shows that suffered in the past months (GREASE, MARY POPPINS, LITTLE MERMAID) saw quite the increase.
Sad that AUGUST: OC keeps doing poor business, I imagine that they'll close in January too unless they work things out with Lily Tomlin.

Posted: 12/1/08 at 4:06pmActually, now I see that you cannot believe everything you read. I went back through and found that the week of 12/30/2007 grossed $1,839,950. That is the only week where the draw has been bigger than the one last week.

Posted: 12/1/08 at 4:47pmAm I alone in thinking some of these numbers might have been better? Hairspray, Spam, Grease, Ave Q -- I'm surprised they weren't higher.

Posted: 12/1/08 at 4:53pmWhile this is great news, Thanksgiving week, a busy week with lots of tourists, isn't the week to estimate if we're out of this slump yet.

I am SHOCKED at Gypsy being at such a low percentage, especially for Thanksgiving week. It just doesn't seem right. If they close sooner than March 1st I'll be really upset.

rayandallthatjazz ~ Their average ticket price was around $90 per that chart. Probably explains the $$ amount with the "low" percentage.

Tourists paying top dollar (across the board).
And there was one more performance than the previous week.
Next week, one less performance. And percentage and average ticket goes down.
p.s. Most likely back to 55%-65%.

Isn't percentage based ON the number of performances a show has and not slots per week?
I still don't see it going anywhere anytime soon.
LIVE THAT LESSON!!!!!!
#23re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 11/30
Posted: 12/1/08 at 10:26pmThe percentages are not affected by number of performances, but the grosses definitely are since that is an extra performance that people bought tickets for.

RE: Gypsy. I was walking past the theater Saturday or Sunday and some guy was trying to push me to go into the theater. It was odd and pushy and I was late for another play.
I guess things are getting really bad. Today was officially declared a recession, duh, not news to me. If my visitors had not bought tickets to shows, I probably would not have gone to the theater this weekend.
