Night Music had another great week, and they only had 7 performances.
Finian actually went up. Good for them.
There goes the idea Ragtime is building steam...to bad...
Phantom dropping 20%, not that it matters to them, but still, that's a crazy dip!
poor Ragtime, I was really hoping to see better numbers for them. And does Hair not have any discounts out now?? It has a $91 average ticket but it's capacity numbers are low.
Nice to see the drops not so bad. Nice to see White Christmas back to where they were last year making over a million a week. Also, nice to see Finian's Rainbow have a little more money last week.
Bye, Bye, Ragtime.
With the economy the way it is right now, a lot of people are holding on tightly to their disposable income.
Unless the serious, dramatic stuff either musical (Ragtime) or play (God of Carnage/Oleanna) has a must-see star in it, it is less likely to succeed in this climate. (Just my opinion of course.)
To bring in the bucks — bring in the fun.
Good job Finian's !!
Ouch Ragtime is not looking good right now.

That's just it, not looking good right now. All of that can change in the weeks to come. Publicity hasn't been the greatest but I hear it should start picking up. Whoopi was the beginning.
The change needs to come sooner than 'weeks to come', for Ragtime to stay open.
FINIAN'S RAINBOW is building. It's building slowly, but at least making gains. It's a light, fun show and shoudl do well over teh holidays. But, given the reviews, it should be doing better.
RAGTIME should be doing a lot better, and this will be the decision week for the producers. It seems all the New York area people who wanted to see it, went to Washington last spring and saw it there.
HAIR is running out of steam. I wonder if when the show moves to London in the spring, the producers will elect not to replace the cast and call it a run.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
I really don't think the running cost is over 600k, so I highly doubt they are doing terrible.
It's a shame Ragtime isn't doing better. Such an excellent production of a great show.
Hair should be doing blockbuster business but it is just lying there.Ditto for Ragtime & Finians
Hair's #'s may be slipping but I don't think the producers have much to worry about. Even in a bad week they still made more than $700K, and they've recouped awhile ago. I seriously doubt their running cost is above $500k. I predict the numbers will go up come spring break with all the college kids descending upon the city.
I'd like to request that in honor of Garth Drabinsky's planned return to producing all Ragtime grosses for this month be artificially inflated by 25%.

Hair's not in any trouble. Despite some low capacity numbers, their grosses are still very good. And for a show with almost no set and a few costume changes, their running costs can't be that high.
