Posted: 2/8/10 at 3:21pmWow, weird week overall. Shows had big bumps, or big drops. Hopefully this week will cover this past as shows will do amazing business this weekend because of Valentine's Day and the fact that schools are closed on Monday.

Woof!
Ashely Simpson did Chicago, and no one cared apparently.

Posted: 2/8/10 at 4:11pmI imagine many houses were not very full Sunday, given that it was Super Bowl Sunday. I know a few shows had special promotions with VERY cheap tickets to try and get people in the theatre on Sunday. Apparently it didn't work.

Posted: 2/8/10 at 4:15pmI do agree the Super Bowl definitely a big factor for some of these numbers. But, I went to see Hair last Wednesday evening, and the mezzanine was practically empty. We were allowed to move up, but I chose to stay near the back and left about 4 rows between me and the people in front of me.

"In the Heights" and "Chicago" are in trouble. If "ITH" continues to get grosses like that they will probaly close it even before the summer. I also don't think Michelle Williams will really help the grosses in "Chicago."

She's basically a has-been tv actress and singer.

Lion King went up actually.
But Sunday would have been a killer for shows -- but no different than any other super bowl sunday. It's the lean months, boys and girls.

Posted: 2/8/10 at 6:46pmFebruary is always a difficult month for Broadway as everyone knows..no tourists ....I am curious to know which shows got the advances of Finian's and Ragtime -who got the group sales?....I second acted Chicago a few weeks ago...been a few years since I saw it - and it was dead- the audience, the cast...absolutely no spark....Ashley was passable-not a disaster-but just adequate...G-d bless Gerald Butler...still has the most amazing physique. It still has some years left- someone told me the nut is only $350,000/week

Three main factors to why most shows dropped that week:
1. Superbowl Sunday
2. A snow storm hit. although NYC didn't get a lot, I'm sure people put off seeing a show last minute on Friday & Saturday due to the large amount predicted.
3. This was likely the coldest week so far. I'm sure people stayed home simply because of that.
Also, this week may only see a small increase(if any). Another (bigger) snow storm is expected Tuesday night into Wednesday(all day) and it isn't supposed to get any warmer. That's three performances impacted(for most shows).

A View from the Bridge did very well this week.
Those of you (and you know who you are) that predicted the show would do poorly attendance-wise and even told other posters not to worry about buying advance tickets... What do you think now?

Posted: 2/8/10 at 11:05pmWow. A View from the Bridge really surprises me. Star cast and limited run aside, to have a straight play essentially sold out in February, even with all the factors ACL2006 points out, is amazing.

Posted: 2/10/10 at 9:05amI also forgot that it was Kid's Night on Broadway for some shows this past week. The shows gross this week could have went down because of that too.
