Wow. That's a pretty off week almost across the board.
Didn't Wedding Singer not have a show yesterday?
ETA: Umm, yeah. I obviously can't read. Sorry.

According to the chart, Wedding Singer did a full 8 show week. But, given that it was opening week, they obviously gave away a ton of comps to critics, guests, etc..... which would account for the huge drop.
I'm surprised that David Schwimmer is turning out to have little box office appeal. One would think that all those years on Friends would translate into a higher attendance figure than 38.4% (with heavy discounting).
Sweeney, Rent and The Producers also had big drops. Did the special cheap ticket day affect Rent's numbers?

To some extent. Rent's average ticket price is usually around $60 and last week it was $52.67.

But even with the cheaper RENT tickets, the average number of seats left were nearly 2,000. However, the day that it was 20$, it could have been filled...
Phantom went down
At least its still in the 90's
but pretty much everything went down.

Drowsy's selling well but the avg. ticket price is in the $30s.
I hope Wedding Singer recovers. Seems like Lestat isn't doing terrible.
What are the Wedding Singer PR people doing wrong?
Lestat opened last week too, and did pretty respectably besides.

Drowsy must be papering VERY heavily to have an average ticket price of $36 (by far the lowest on Broadway). I guess they're trying to build word of mouth by giving away the house like that.
Also if I remember correctly during the AMEX presale all tickets for previews topped out at 65 dollars, so that would drastically affect the average ticket price.
I don't think it's surprising at all that David Schwimmer isn't having a lot of box office appeal. I mean I like the guy, but how many people honestly watched Friends for his character? A lot of fervent Friends fans I know thought he was the most annoying part of the show.
Plus an old-fashioned court drama isn't exactly an easy sell, especially since most people who are aware of it stand a good chance of knowing the story already.
And I know Wedding Singer had a press/opening week, but how did they go down so much?
Seriously, I thought Tim Daly would sell better than David Schwimmer! But I'd go see it for Željko Ivanek I think he is AMAZING.
Too bad it's such a down week!

Yeah, wouldn't you think a press week would have a higher attendence?
The PR people for Wedding Singer need to get the word out there. They need to get Wedding Singer on TV shows and get the music out there.
Did you see the Wedding Singer TV Commercial yet? It started airing last week. It's very well done.

Attendance numbers are based on "sold" tickets and that figure always goes down during press week because literally hundreds of tickets are given to press and hundreds more are handed out to friends and family of the cast and creative team and the producers. All of those seats are counted as "unsold" tickets (because they weren't "sold") even though people were obviously sitting in them.

Oh okay, that makes more sense.
I was surprised to not see any of the Wedding Singer movie cast at the premiere.
No, I haven't seen the commericial. I hope it goes online sometime soon.
So Lestat dropping 15 percent isn't a sign that the reviews are killing it (pardon the semi pun)
I don't understand how Rent could have had 8 shows last week, because they couldn't have counted Monday nights show, could they? Did they have an extra show on Wed. or something?
The Wedding Singer had 2 free shows last week; the opening on Thursday, 4/27 and the Saturday Matinee on 4/22, which was for press, so that's 2,844 tickets NOT counted. If you add them in as sell-outs, you're not looking at a significant drop from the week before. Look also at the average ticket price, it's the highest it's been yet.
may i point out to all of you that The History Boys is up to 90%
To answer the above question about Rent, they added a Wednesday night show. Which nobody really knew about. There weren't even enough people there to give AWAY the lottery tickets. I went to play for a friend (I had tickets for another show that night) and I shouldn't have even gone - they had tickets left over.
I was surprised to see Avenue Q have such a big drop.

Y'all gotta realize two weeks ago was the end of "spring break" season...tourism in general goes WAAAAAAY down in May. Parents aren't traveling with kids who are in final month of school, college kids are studying, etc. Also, this is the time of year when every single theater is occupied. There is a lot for ticket buyers to choose from...plus all the new shows are getting publicity and what not. The longer running shows normally get a little forgotten this time of year. In general May is typically a quiet month for theater.
