congrats to THE PIRATE QUEEN and GREY GARDENS for pulling up their numbers money-wise
they each made about $20,000 this week compared with last week
slight boost, but still a nice one :)

This is almost funny.
Almost. Another 1% climb for Company? Go team!
Ugh.

Posted: 5/14/07 at 3:58pmOH. MY. GOD. I didn't think "Journey's End" could go any lower, but there it is at 21.8%. At this rate, even if they sweep the noms tomorrow, they'll probably have to post a closing notice within the week.

Posted: 5/14/07 at 4:04pmWell LoveMusik had low capacity last week for it's opening, so that jump is to be expected.

Nice to see a little rise for GG.
Company fans, at least you can be happy for the award recognition the show is getting. Maybe it will boost its box office.
Journey's End, oh crap!
...and of course, woohoo Curtains!

I hear you MiracleElixir, I finally got a chance to JE on Thurs. amazing, I was in tears by the end, especially when I turned around and looked up at the COMPLETELY EMPTY mezz. And after seeing these reports, I'm almost in tears again.
everyone should see this show. NOW

Posted: 5/14/07 at 4:24pmHow much longer can some of these shows hang on?? It's so sad to see quality barely making it -- hopefully tomorrow (and the coming weeks) can help some of them.

Posted: 5/14/07 at 4:40pmDrowsy Chaperone in the sixties - when did that happen? And it's very amusing to watch the cheerleading for shows that went up 1%. Most of those shows do not have wonderful average ticket prices. It doesn't matter, though - today's producers would rather lose money than admit defeat. It's actually shocking.

I was being completely sarcastic in my "cheerleading."
1% is hardly an achievement; it's a crying shame.
I think I'm going to see Journey's End tomorrow. Love my underdogs.

Emcee, JE is excellent.
I need to go back to Company. I really loved it the first time.

bk - strange reaction to producers being willing to lose money to keep shows open. "Shocking"? How about gracious? Producers could cut their losses and run but they believe in the shows they invest in, and are willing to sacrifice the almighty buck to have an unprofitable show continue. That is not "admitting defeat" - that's love of the theater.

Posted: 5/15/07 at 1:17pmWell, we can agree to disagree on this point. Producing shows is a business. Love of theater is lovely, but there is nothing gracious about costing your investors millions of dollars when the writing is on the wall. But, that's just my opinion.

Posted: 5/15/07 at 10:42pmI was speaking as an investor. It is a business but if an investor wants to make money, theater is hardly the first place (or even the nth) to look. Shows rarely recoup, much less turn a profit.

Nice to see Pirate Queen holding in the 70s. Maybe it will find an audience? Who knows.
I'd be really interested to know how many people are actually in the audience of JE every night.
