Posted: 5/18/09 at 10:18pmPLEASE. Let's be realistic here. The show's in trouble. A healthy running show, which has only been open for a few months, doesn't have to offer such promotions heading into the busy summer tourism season.

I'm so worried about poor Avenue Q. They should stunt cast. I know fans aren't supposed to say that, but whatever. Save the puppets!
Eeesh, Shrek... That doesn't look good.

PiraguaGuy2: Shows don't close because of low average ticket prices. The show closes when its grosses can't keep pace with the costs. Since opening 9-5 has been above it's break-even and the grosses are growing week by week. Average ticket price doesn't tell the full story.
wdwfreak: Same situation in reverse. Variety reported SHREK has a weekly nut of "close to 800 K" (although some figures say $750K is more likely.) Even so of the 28 weeks SHREK has been running, it has only been profitable 11 times. With the economy, tourism is expected to be considerably lower this summer. Even if SHREK does well with the summer tourists, Labour Day could sound the final death knell. Overall the show is not performing as many expected, and the producers cannot count on the Tony Awards for a boost.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

Posted: 5/19/09 at 3:29amHas there been any idea of Billy's weekly nut? Just wondering how soon they'll recoup...with summer coming and a huge amount of awards already(please god no backlash) I dont see them being below 90% capacity anytime soon.

Posted: 5/19/09 at 3:50amBILLY ELLIOT has a fairly high weekly cost...reported between $700 and $800 K but since it has regularly grossed above $1 million per week, it is well on its way to recouping. But the pre-opening bills were about $14 million, so it will take 10-14 months.

Posted: 5/19/09 at 3:53amThanks...that was my thought about a year. And the wording DID occur to me("Do I really want to put those together?")...but it is what it is...lol.

Posted: 5/19/09 at 1:52pmWell in pure grosses I doubt itll EVER beat Wicked...and I have no idea how long billy can stay popular, depends on how they handle cast changeovers. Theyve done beyond well with that so far elsewhere so heres hoping.
