Posted: 5/18/09 at 4:39pmGuys and Dolls is going down fast which is sad because even if this production isn't the best (even though I love it). Everyone else is where I thought they would be...

Their "buy one get one for $7.77" offer is just sad.
Looks like Next to Normal moved a lot more full-price tickets. Good for them.

Posted: 5/18/09 at 4:50pmSHREK is in trouble. It has barely managed to break even all season. Every time it has a good week 3 bad weeks wipe out the gains. The producers would be wise to close it and send it on the road where it might do better.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

Go Next to Normal indeed!!!!
On Sunday morning the box office man said Sunday evening's show was completely sold out (and was selling people standing room tickets). I was very dubious of this, but when the show began, I looked around and couldn't find a single empty seat, save for the one in the extreme side of the second row, behind the pillar.

Posted: 5/18/09 at 5:33pm9 to 5 is not "fine" as of right now. Unfortunately, occupancy percentages mean nothing. The real number to look for is average ticket price and grosses, and $60 is troublesome for such an expensive show.

Wow, only one show (Joe Turner) didn't have a higher gross than last week.
Good week all around, especially for Next to Normal and Hair.

Posted: 5/18/09 at 6:03pmIt was Graduation week for NYU and a couple other universities. That helped bring in the crowds.

9 TO 5's grosses have consistently gone up since the week they began performances. They're doing great!
And go HAIR!

Posted: 5/18/09 at 7:00pmfrontrowcentre2- Shrek is NOT gonna be in trouble. Once the summer comes, all the tourists will back into shows that would appeal to them and shows like Shrek and the Disney shows attract them. Also with the many award nominations received, it will draw in a crowd too. (especially probably when Brian D'Arcy James wins Best Featured Actor in a Musical and Christopher Sieber is bound to win as well.)Shrek is not going anywhere anytime soon.

Brian D'Arcy James isn't nominated for Best Featured Actor in a Musical. He's nominated for Leading Actor and will lose to either the Billy boys or Gavin Creel.
Sieber will probably lose to either Will Swenson or Greg Jbara.

Posted: 5/18/09 at 9:47pmI got that ticket promo in my email for GUYS & DOLLS today... buy one, get one for $7.77. Wow. That doesn't sound good. I think the slow box office speaks volumes about the leads in this cast, and what they've done (or not done) with one of the best musicals of all time. Perhaps some people thought it was also a bit too soon for a revival.

Posted: 5/18/09 at 9:48pmThat discount means nothing. With a full-priced ticket, it's basically the same amount you would be paying for two tickets with the previous discount.
