Isn't it conventional wisdom that Tony noms have no effect on box office, and Tony wins kick the box office for a week at most - in other words not enough of a push to save an ailing show, and some small effect on a waning show?

Traditionally, everything starts inching up from the time of the nominations to the week of the awards. Then after the awards are handed out the winners really start cleaning up. But there is not always an immediate bump at the box-office(s) the day after the nominees are announced.

Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

With another week of grosses posted, what do you guys think about HAIR? I have to decide soon if I should make a trip up to see it this summer, in the event that it may potentially close by October. Any suggestions/comments?

^ I'm pretty sure there are enough comments about it on the first page.

Hair cast "returning": I thought it was pretty widely accepted that the cast knew they would not automatically have their NY roles still available to them once they were done in London. But even if they WERE told their jobs were waiting for them, that only counts if they keep the show open.

The cast leaving London has more to do with their contracts being up (I'm guessing that was the deal with London's unions) more than returning to Bway.

I still think it's closing early Fall -- no matter how good of a summer they have. Even if it does hold out, I suspect a January closing at the absolute latest. they are already limping at the Box Office.'

Thank you, Hair, I loved ye' greatly!
