Good on Curtains and Xanadu.
And geez, Grey Gardens was over 89%. Pretty good.
Good for GREY GARDENS, CURTAINS, and CHICAGO. XANADU did incredibly well for opening week, good for them.
DROWSY seems to be in trouble.

If Drowsy dips any lower, I would imagine they will close at the end of August/September.
Grey Gardens beat out RENT, Legally Blonde, Avenue Q, Les Mis, Spelling Bee, Drowsy (2 weeks in a row), and Xanadu.
Whats wrong with this picture?
I have a feeling that the closing notice is going to (finally) bring out this show's audience... Unfortunately it will be too late.
I'm a little worried about The Drowsy Chaperone. I wonder how long it can last with numbers like that?
about drowsy-isn't the fact that it recouped its investment helping keep it alive even with those horrible numbers?
(I do think it's time to put it to sleep-it's over. THere are shows lined up that want this theater.)

It recouped, yes, but every week that it doesn't meet it's operating costs (at around $575,000), it's loosing money. It will definitely be closed come December, it's just a matter of how long they feel it can stay open.

Any idea what Rent's running costs are, Thesbijean (or anyone else)? I heard $250,000/week - is that correct? I know I've said this so many times, but I'd love to see that show leave with dignity and not at 40%. Too bad it's unlikely that the producers care.
Also, if Drowsy is indeed losing money, why are they keeping it open at all? Short of a giant advertising campaign, there's no real reason why there grosses would magically and consistently rise.
I'm not sure exactly what Rent's running costs are but I know that they're pretty low. Which explains why the show can survive when it only grosses about $300,000 and plays to a slightly-more-than-half-full theater.
Although I'm sure the grosses will go up very quickly when Adam and Anthony return.

I'm sure they will, but I still can't see Rent going back to sellout or even near-sellout status with all full-price tickets. As of yesterday, there are still great orchestra seats left for even weekend dates in August. I imagine that there was a rush on tickets from the more intense Rent fans immediately after the announcement of their return, but I'd bet tickets are probably selling only slightly above par for the course right now. It's still a great move on the part of the producers, though, and of course ticket buyers are free to prove me wrong.
At any rate, I was asking about the running costs because I wonder how full of a house Rent will play to over the winter, not in the immediate future.

RENT's regular running costs are about 280,000.
However, with Adam and Anthony coming into the show soon, the running costs should go up to around $300,000.
I also remember hearing it being somewhere between 240k-250k/week.
I feel that Rent's "demographic" is HUGELY tapped into now with the huge successes of Legally Blonde and Spring Awakening. In my mind, its the first time, recently, at least that there have been two shows targeted at young teens which have been open opposite of Rent.

Thanks, Thesbijean. I'd bet Gray is making somewhat better money than a full-time Mimi like Antonique Smith as well, although I'm not sure if it's enough to significantly impact the running costs.
Rises in most shows! Wicked still going strong...
Wow, full house at Hairspray! And the movie hasn't even come out yet!
Yay Curtains and Hairspray!
Oh Drowsy.
Happy for the respect being shown to Grey Gardens. To bad they had to announce the closing of the show to get peoples attention. I'm looking forward to seeing Xanadu this week; from what I've read on the boards it sure sounds like a fun night at the theatre.
And BEAUTY made another Million at 99.9%.
They better hope MERMAID is good.
How low are XANADU's running costs if $230,521 is considered extremely good?
OLD ACQUAINTANCE shot up 17.3%. Wow! That is wonderful. I'm glad people are getting out and seeing this.
yeah all the shows went up this week.
congrats to Legally Blonde for going up...it deserves it alot.
Hairspray the movie is only a hour and forty seven minutes. so it seems they missed alot cause the musical is alot longer.
xandu did good on its opening week.
Disney always does wellwith beauty, mary, and lion king.
XANADU is playing at the Helen Hayes so they can't do a lot more than that even if they played at full capacity. I assume that if they booked a theatre where their net gross can only be so high, their weekly nut must be quite low.
Xanadu's average ticket price jumped to $65! (from $49)
For opening week, their gross is pretty good (1 performance was invite only = free tickets).
XANADU's discount code price went from $49 to $85 following the good reviews.
