A good week overall but the drops are already starting. Poor 9to5 couldn't keep the bump from the closing announcement.
Good for "Mary Stuart". In the midst of all the Sturm and Drang on Broadway, this little show that could keeps plugging along. from RC in Austin, Texas
Burn the Floor made more than 9 to 5.
that's just pathetic.

Disney made a mistake to close Mermaid too soon. Maybe they'll extend it? or is someone going in to Lunt Fontanne right away?
Yikes for 9 to 5. I guess it just can't seem to find an audience. too bad, i actually enjoyed the show. sad to see it go like this.
^ I feel like we go over this every week with the Little Mermaid. The producers knew it was going to do well in the summer but suffer in the fall like the other shows. It will not extend.

Surprised to see Shrek drop already, but at least it's not a big one and it still made $940,000.
"Disney made a mistake to close Mermaid too soon."
Thomas Shumacher said that although the show will have a strong summer, it would be fiscally irresponsible to keep it open during the fall months which are difficult times to make alot of money.

yeah, i know this is being discussed every week. It just makes me wonder if they know they'll make money, why cancel it? are they just expecting it to drop to hell when sept comes? but most shows do. the only thing i can think of is that the show cost too much to put on and needs to be near sold out every week to make a profit.

Also, Beauty & the Beast made this much money during its closing weeks in 2007.

camncal- It has been making above its nut for practically the whole summer (well guessing its at 650,000 a week). It had a high prodcution budget. If it costs too much it would have closed last year but they were making money. If a show needs to be sold out every week to cover a prodction budget(uhmmm.spiderman.) it makes no sense to produce it.

Beauty's gross is pretty much the same as Mermaids throughout. Why did the show go on so much longer?

Because BatB recouped over 10 years earlier.
Because Beauty was better, and IMO a lot more theatrical.
My one friend actually met the girl who was apparently going to replace Chelsea in the title role in September - awful for her! So I assume the majority of contracts were up as well.

I 100% agree with you on that.
Looks like summer has already hit it's peak.

Worst week in a long time I think. I wonder how long.

When 9 to 5 goes on TDF the tix sell out so quickly. I don't see why they don't put some more tix on there. If it's selling at 70% capacity on average, put 15% of the tix on there, at least they'd be getting some money back and the theater will be fuller.
Also, I tried to get Mermaid tix last week and you can't get tix. I'm surprised they aren't extending at least an additional month. Unless the theater is already booked.
With the hot streak that "TLM" has been on, I wonder if it's going to just barely recoup before closing. Looking at the grosses over its run, it's got to be getting close. Even if the operating budget was so high, it hit that almost every week and this summer alone probably put a huge dent in production costs.
Poor 9to5, I cannot believe this show is doing so poorly with ticket sales. I hope it does better on tour.
