Actually, for a show like Jersey Boys, those low numbers mean that it's probably doing ok on the weekends, but there are acres of empty seats during the week. And it can be depressing for a cast to come in on Tuesday and do a show for a handful of people.

Behind the fake tinsel of Broadway is real tinsel.

The reason, as was explained by the lead producer, is that he had grown tired of pouring money into the show for the better part of a year.

@leefowler handful? seriously? you might want to take a course in hyperbole prevention. Maybe it'll help with the depression diagnosis you offer too. I'd be much more concerned about depression from unemployment.

also, to the extent the original comment is suggesting a transfer to that theatre by JB, the Dodgers would never ever do that. never.

Apologies for how random this is and basic a question it might sound. I noticed The Color Purple has been having absolutely fabulous attendance for the last several weeks, but its gross potential is consistently lower than one might expect. Is the production actually offering that many discounts? I would love a little clarity here. I truly hope this production sees success.

Based on what I saw Sunday, a lot of people are taking advantage of the rush. They apparently have a secondary rush a little higher ($59?) if the primary rush sells out.

Sadly, yes. I believe it it almost always on tots as well.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

It's also because TCP is often on TKTS for 50%. Also, I have another question that's pretty much the opposite of what was just asked. How can a show like Aladdin make more money this week, but have lower attendance?

Think of it like this:

Last week you decided to bake 100 muffins and sell them for $3 each at a stand you set up on the street. Business was great; you sold all of them. $300 for 100 muffins.

So this week you decided to raise the price to $4. Business was still great but you only sold 90 of the muffins. $360 for 90 muffins.
