If that's true then good on them but they've never even made their weekly nut so they're going to burn through that cash very quickly. Do wethink they're getting a break on the rent? Are the GoGos waving their royalties? Maybe a tax write off? "
My friend heard this same thing at intermission at the performance on Saturday night. Again, good on them if so. It was a fun show. Though (albeit a holiday weekend), the balcony was closed on a Saturday night. Not a soul sitting up there.

The "advance" theory is pretty far-fetched. In 10+ frames, the show has never gotten close to a week in which it did not lose significant money. The notion that it is sitting on an advance that turns this around is preposterous.
A break on rent (which means the fixed payment) is not a significant factor. Even were it zero.
There is no economic principle in which staying open as a tax write off is a thing. To get a tax write off of $100k, you have to lose over $200k. No one does that.
The royalties (for exploitation or anything else) likewise are not a significant factor when you are this deep in the hole.
No, this is just someone willing to have a bonfire with their cash. I don't get it but it seems there is an epidemic of this kind of thing. Maybe it's proof we need to reallocate incomes in this country.

Well, if it's closed, they're not allowed to...

This has been happening at a lot of performances of this show recently. They have been moving everyone down to dress circle and even that isn't full. it's sad, really.

When I saw HOH last Sunday matinee, I had a balcony ticket and went up there. It was indeed closed with no ushers up there. (No one had told me it was closed). I went to the Dress Circle and was given a second row center ticket. Good deal for the $49 I had paid for the balcony. For the Sunday evening show of Getting The Band Back Together, instead of relocating the few that were in the balcony they chose to keep them there. I moved to rear mezzanine on my own. (the shame!)
