Yeah, most of the shows that are struggling have already announced closing dates.

I agree with BroadwayConcierge: for the last week of August/first few days of September, many shows experienced uptakes, and with 2-for-1 week coming up, I bet a lot of those numbers are going to increase!

Also, it's really sad to not have numbers for Hello,Dolly! anymore...

It’s somewhat astounding HOH hasn’t called it off yet. I’m rooting for them, but at this point, Gwyneth Paltrow would have to put up her GOOP empire to keep it afloat.

Not necessarily, especially for shows that had a large advance sold already. 

Also, an addendum to my last post, Waitress went down without a star in the role so I’m wondering how Nicolette will fare....

The two-for-one deal for the next two weeks won't necessarily drastically increase grosses, but it fills the theaters.

As sad as it is, I think Anastasia's gonna call it before Christmas. They have big competition in Frozen, and they're numbers have been getting consistently worse. Also, I think Frozen tickets are not as expensive or had to get anymore.

I think Anastasia wants to hit the two-year mark if at all possible. They're close to recoupment, in any case - I believe they're projected to recoup later this fall.

Frozen's word of mouth is definitely hitting its advance, but there's not going to be a shortage of tourists with tweenagers who want to see it for quite some time. I actually think Mean Girls is hurting Anastasia more -  both are aimed at more of a millennial twenty-something audience who loved the movies than at current tweens, as Frozen is.

Ouch, Anastasia! At least GTBBT got that raise in attendance they wanted... After announcing that they will be closing. Pretty Woman is still holding up due to tourists... Let's see if that stays.

I was at Once on This Island tonight (to see Hailey back from her injury) and I was disappointed by the audience. It really wasn't that full and the audience members who were there were pretty quiet. I know it's not a rock concert, but most jokes or ends of numbers were met with middling responses. I don't know if this is the place to discuss it, but I think it's on its way out.

I actually think Beautiful, Kinky Boots, and possibly Waitress are doing okay. They’ve all recouped and are probably at least meeting their weekly nuts. Summer may also at least be meeting its weekly, but I don’t see how it’ll ever recoup. And I think Anastasia is okay especially if it is approaching recoupment which would suggest its box office is exceeding its weekly nut. HOH though. Ouch!

I also agree that OOTI is likely in danger, but I suspect that Davenport will keep it running a while longer although I don’t see anyway that it is meeting its weekly nut most weeks. I have to say that I went into seeing it in June with high hopes and I left non-plussed. It isn’t the type of show that is going to have strong word-of-mouth among tourists plus its not the type of revival with a well-known title or score to non-theater aficionados.

Funny story: In February, I sat next to someone at Hello, Dolly! who told me he had seen Once that week. I was surprised as I hadn’t heard of even an off-broadway revival. But the more he talked it was clear he was talking about OOTI. He didn’t even know what show he had seen. To be honest, I detected either some substance abuse or mental health issues so I don’t think I ever had the heart to tell him he had seen OOTI, not Once.

I’m worried about Waitress’s figures, mainly because it’s my go to feel good show whenever I visit NYC and I’ll miss it if it’s not there! The drop last 2 weeks since Kat McPhee left is pretty big and I’m not sure Nicolette will bring in a lot more bucks, but let’s see! Given the show has recouped, like you say, I wonder what kinda grosses they can swallow before it becomes a problem? Last year during Betsy’s run there were quite a few low weeks so I guess like you say maybe those grosses are okay. Also Sara could always jump in and do another 1 or 2 month stint I guess to help give the show a boost if she needs to lol!

You have to consider that when stars step into Waitress, they likely require a higher salary. So even though the show’s box office increases so also does its weekly nut. Not sure how that works with Sara though since she’s part of the creative team.

Oh for sure, but the differential in gross is a lot higher than the additional cost is for paying a star. But I’m not really up to speed on what bigger names get for roles these days for a lead role - $10-20k a week? - i’m sure a huge star like Bette Miller would be paid way more. I have no idea if their living costs are covered also if stars move to NYC for the show. And yeah, I have no idea how it would work with Sara!

I would guess that stars make more than 20k a week, but I could be wrong.

This past weekend I overheard one of the HOH producers, not Paltrow, bragging about the fact that they had enough of an advance to run the show though January. If that's true then good on them but they've never even made their weekly nut so they're going to burn through that cash very quickly. Do we think they're getting a break on the rent? Are the GoGos waving their royalties? Maybe a tax write off?

I’ve a feeling that with HOH because the Hudson currently isn’t in high demand (A friend told me Dreamgirls was facing a lot of difficulty with its transfer) that they may be getting rent a little cheaper...

My friend heard this same thing at intermission at the performance on Saturday night.   Again, good on them if so.  It was a fun show.  Though (albeit a holiday weekend), the balcony was closed on a Saturday night.  Not a soul sitting up there.
