Thanks!!
"I don't understand why Mary Poppins is still running. Better yet why they closed Mermaid and not Poppins. Poppins has been out or going on 3 years and it is just a roller-coaster show. The grosses aren't stable. I know Addams Family is going in the Lunt but damn, they could just close Poppins move Mermaid and have the TAF in the Lunt."
First of all, Mary Poppins recouped:

Second of all, Disney is behind it, so they will sustain their productions as long as possible.

"Wicked" in London was rumored to close in Febraury 2008, but the rumor was false.

As opposed to TLM, those were very stable. Always going down.

Has anyone else heard these rumors that KirbyCat heard?
"What kind of people told you this? Were they people who worked at Shrek or people who know cast and crew members? I think a performance on the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parde can help boost sales. This show deserves a longer run than 'The Little Mermaid.'"
"Has anyone else heard these rumors that KirbyCat heard?"
I feel as if you are going to have a cow if Shrek doesn't run longer than Little Mermaid. Why are you so intent on finding out where KirbyCat heard these rumors? She never declared anything official, and looking at the grosses now, it isn't surprising that these rumors have generated.
And a simple Thanksgiving Day parade performance isn't enough to boost ticket sales.

First of all, I've simply been hearing it from friends that are just as involved with the theater scene as all of you guys are as well as seeing a few twitter statuses saying things like "Shrek, please don't close yet!"
But thank you Millie for sticking up for me- I would never make up a rumor like this or any for that matter, because god knows that I wouldn't be happy if this closed. (Yeah, it's my guilty pleasure...) But again, I really hope that the holiday sales will boost their numbers and will hopefully keep them truckin' along at least until they recoup.
PS-I'm a "he". :)

"wow! roages is at 90% in September! Look at all those dregs that love the show!"
I would imagine that having KB take over the role has given them a boost. Great timing on that casting.
No one outside of the theater world who the hell Kerry Butler is.

"Shrek" is like a second "Beauty and the Beast" to me even though it is NOWHERE near as good. I was a little bitter when "TLM" forced "B&TB" to close because it didn't turn out good at all. I may have overracted a bit There are better shows I think that deserved a longer run than "TLM" like "9 to 5" and "Young Frankenstein."

Those are "better"?
beautywickedlover- I'm gonna kick your ass. Just because you want a show to remain open, isn't gonna make it remain open. I have learned that the hard way with LB and TLM. So if it closes, SUCK IT UP. Life WILL go on.

Shrek is currently casting for the national tour, not the Broadway production.
"I would imagine that having KB take over the role has given them a boost."
What boost are you talking about? The percentage of tickets sold has been pretty much consistent, and the grosses haven't been changing drastically from week to week.
The numbers you see this week have nothing to do with Kerry Butler. Rather, it is what we have been seeing for the past few months.

There was barely an effort put into "TLM." Carlotta & the maids looked like chickens and flounder's costume was nothing more than a yellow t-shirt and shorts. Ursula's downfall was so anticlimatic. At least "Shrek" has a dragon Disney couldn't make Ursula gigantic.

Who are you to determine if a show is "deserves" to run longer than another show? Why are we even bringing it up? I'll admit that Little Mermaid has its flaws, but you are just being plain stupid.
Personally, I think I should get some of the credit for Rock of Ages' numbers....
Well okay not just me, but people like me who have spread the word of mouth about this show. I have recommended it to a lot of people who knew nothing about it and so far everyone has said they loved it. A few of my friends went this past Saturday and I asked how Kerry Butler was...they had no clue who I was talking about..."Oh you mean that little blonde, she was good..." We are talking non-theatergoers here.
I look forward to seeing Kerry, so I can say I have seen all three (thus far) Broadway Sherries. But Next to Normal is up next for me.
And truthfully...at this moment there isn't a lot going on that interests me...maybe God of Carnage after that.

I came to town recently and ROA was the only thing I really liked. It's such a fun show - jukebox doesn't have to mean bad. Great cast, great energy and great atmosphere (barring the usual psycho fans). It's not that surprising to me it's still doing well. It's pleasing!

Um no, the shills that sh*t all of their Rock of Ages crap on here are responsible.

Good lord, what a bunch of nitpicky argumentative queens we have here. Yep, no one outside the theater world knows who she is. But so what? Everyone in the theater does. So, that small group's interest COULD explain why ROA is UP slightly in the capacity department, and UP about 8% in gross since the week before she started.
Or you all arguing that her casting has/will have no effectr at all? Cause that sounds pretty dumb.

CS is back! school must be back in session so now you can use Boston Conservatory's computer lab again for free! Awesome!
RoA was the 8th highest percentage show last week after only being open for 5 months. Kinda amazing i think. And with the tour going out next year and I hear a sit down in Toronto and a show in London, this thing will become a phenomenon pretty soon.
I cannot wait for the dregs all over the world to see it! hooray for shows that make people happy!

The RoA dregs are soooo irritating.

What's a dreg (in relation to ROA)?
Broadway Legend Joined: 8/12/09
Dreg means scum, filth. Someone called the RoA fans it as an insult & they have turned it into a fan term.
I like ROCK OF AGES. I like Kerry Butler. But, seriously, her being in this show has absolutely no impact on its grosses. Except for maybe 5 screaming Kerry queens per performance who might attend the show that otherwise wouldn't, this show is tailor-made for audiences who don't have a clue about the theatre scene or familiarity with "Broadway stars."
I actually think it's great that there's a show on Broadway that exists for this kind of audience as well as the theatre snobs among us, so this isn't a criticism, just a fact. Did THE LITTLE MERMAID get a huge boost due to Faith Prince? I know I love her, but I wouldn't touch that show with a 10-foot pole no matter who got involved. I guarantee you if you exit-polled the audience, 99% of the crowd would have the "Who's Kerry Butler?"
