Broadway In The World

I was visiting Buenos Aires and I decided to see some of the Argentinean versions of Broadway shows and plays, as well as some local shows. I wanted to see Manuel Puig's "Mystery of the Rose Bouquet" and "Who's Afriad of Virginia Woolf" but I didn't have enough time. Some short comments of the shows I did see:
-Doubt-
This play got rave reviews across the board in Buenos Aires, and it was indeed great, yet, I enjoyed the Broadway version a lot better, maybe "Doubt" is a play to see only once.
-Victor/Victoria-
Latin singer Valeria Lynch, who performed years ago at the Carnegie Hall in New York City, also starred in Evita in Mexico City, Kiss of the Spider Woman, Hair, They Are Playing Our Song and other musicals in Buenos Aires, was excellent as Victoria Grant. She hit all the notes and the musical was a little shorter than it was on Broadway, which turned Victor/Victoria into a hilarious and upbeat musical.
The orchestra and the mezzanine of the theatre where this show is currently playing was turned into a huge cabaret that makes one feel as if they were in a Parisian night club. Excellent show.
-Sweet Charity-
Raising TV star Florencia Pena got rave reviews years ago when she starred in Grease! as Rizzo, now she is back in the theatre as Charity Hope Valentine. Fosse's original choreography was left alone, with a few minor changes, but remained the same, which required professional dancers and the show really made Broadway's 2005 revival look like a high school production. The elevator and the staging was a copy of the Broadway version, but the costumes were a lot better than in NYC.
All these shows were less than us$ 20(orchestra seats, Buenos Aires is so cheap!)
Just wanted to share, hope you guys enjoy the pix and info, these are probably the biggest productions currently performing in Buenos Aires, but the theatrical and cultural activities are endless.

Posted: 10/23/06 at 9:55amI sometimes forget about international productions. Thanks for sharing this. I would love to see some musicals and plays in other countries, even if I didn't understand what they were saying. I have to put that on my list. I love the picture from Charity.

us$ 20 for a prime orchestra seat, but mezzanine and balcony from about us$ 5, but everything is cheaper down there, if you are from America and have dollars, since people there make less money, going to dinner at a fine restaurant can be about 10, etc. Anyways, the actress in Sweet Charity does look old in that pic, but she is only 31yo.
