re: Broadway/Musical songs that make you cry

I'm surprised no one has said the one that ALWAYS gets me...

"Lot's Wife" from Caroline, or Change

An amazingly powerful, tragic song. I want to fly to London just to see that show again.

This isn't a "song" but it is musical and makes me get all shoked up every time.

When Elphaba enters the Ozdust in Wicked and she's alone and then Galinda joins her and the music starts, ahh it just gets me. I've felt that awkward and loneliness before and it's so moving the way it is done on stage.

Idina singing "Defying Gravity" from Wicked
All the best performers bring to their role something more, something different than what the author put on paper. That's what makes theatre live. That's why it persists. - Stephen Sondheim

re: Broadway/Musical songs that make you cry

The only time I've literally cried in a theater was during "No Good Deed" in Wicked, althought I suspect that had I seen Aida, I would have been able to add "Written In The Stars" to that list.
"There was this one time an alarm went off - it was in the middle of '24.' That's just wrong. Everyone knows everyone was watching '24' at that time." --NYU student quoted in the Washington Square News about students ignoring the frequent fire alarms in dorms
