#0Broadway on Broadway question
Posted: 5/8/05 at 9:40amI've seen B-way on B-way for a few years now and thought about going to it this year. My question is though, do the performers sing the whole song or just select parts? I know on TV it can only be 2-3 minutes do to it's only a 1 hour special with commercials.

They sing through the whole song at the actual event; it's cut for TV.
Hannah, it's a free concert in Times Square. It's in September.

It's a concert in Times Square, usually the 2nd Sunday in September that features performances for the upcoming season from new shows, and also from some of the shows that are already running.
The one time I went, a few years ago, the songs weren't fully performed. If you're there early enough, though, you do catch some of the sound check, etc.

It is an event that is covered by Nyc and Company and the Times Square Bid. I have been going for the last 5 years.
They usually sing the entire song. It is a blast.
But the camera people can be incredibly aggressive.
Especially a few years ago when Melanie attended.
One reporter almost knocked me over.
Last year was more civilized.

Posted: 5/8/05 at 10:19amLast year, they had to redo a few performances because of sound issues and to record it for tv. So I heard All I Care About Is Love with Wayne Brady from Chicago 3 times, and an Avenue Q song a couple times. It's a lot of fun, I highly recommend it!

Posted: 5/8/05 at 10:35amI went this past September...and you see the whole song live...you may actually see it a couple of times because if they are having technical problems they have to do it over. I remember that avenue q did their song like 4 or 5 times. So it's cool to see all that live. It was alot of fun...I would recommend going.

Posted: 5/8/05 at 10:35amGoing once was enough for me. My friends and I did get on camera alot, though. That was fun to see when it was broadcast a couple days later.

But even better then Broadway on Broadway is Broadway in Bryant Park.
All the Broadway and most Off Broadway musicals perform free concerts at Lunch time. It is more enjoyable and less reporters come.

Posted: 5/8/05 at 11:54amBroadway on Broadway is always fun, but like Corine said, Broadway in Bryant Park is awesome. Each show perfroms 3 or 4 songs, its not as crazy crowded, and you get to lie in the grass and tan as you watch!

Posted: 5/8/05 at 12:20pmI love Broadway in Bryant Park. And of course, I can't see Broadway Under the Stars this year because it's on a Jewish holiday. And I can't see Broadway on Broadway, but I'm to as many Broadway in Bryant Park's as I can go to.

Posted: 5/8/05 at 12:52pmI went last year, it was so awesome. All the musicals preforming together and I got to see Wayne Brady and Christy host and sing and Idina n Jen sing For Good for the second time... Ahh heaven. Plus you get a taste of upcoming musicals like last year Eden and Sutton brought down Times Square with songs from Brooklyn and Little Women.

Here's the link for Broadway On Broadway... They haven't updated for this year, though.
The Bryant Park website (www.bryantpark.org) doesn't have any mention of Broadway in Bryant Park on the calendar for July. Are they doing it this year??

I love going to Broadway in Bryant Park, I think I went to 5 of the Thursdays last summer.
Anyone going to Stars in the Alley on June 1?
And when is Broadway Under the Stars this year?

Oh god, the soundboard and mic problems last year were disasterous... that whole day could have gone a lot better than it did -- there were so many problems. Then again, I was on the working side of it, not the audience side of it.
Personally I never attend Bway on Bway unless for some reason Im working it. It's crowded and I lost that kind of patience a long time ago lol A lot of people love it though.
I much prefer Stars in the Alley
