Hey everyone!
I'll be in the city this Sunday, and my family and I are hoping to catch a few shows. We basically only have Sunday to see anything.
Anyone know of a good, reasonably priced show to see? We still don't have tickets.
We've seen Wicked, Rent, Lion King, Jersey Boys on tour, have no interest in Legally Blonde and tried (with no luck) to get Little Mermaid tickets. It's gonna come down to whatever has tickets available on that day.
I also know about Student Rush and TKTS but don't know the actual logistics of how it works. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sunday In The Park With George has a matinee. ALso, off-Broadway, Fuerzabruta has an evening show.(Very fun show!) Sunday is on discount over on Theatermania. Spring Awakening is also on discount and looks like they do 2 shows. You may want to poke around here, Theatermania and Broadwaybox.

Unless it's changed, Roundabout has general rush (doable for anyone regardless of their student status ~ especially helpful when there may only be 1 student and more than 2 people) when the box office opens. I believe it's $26.50 (?) per ticket ~ usually mid or rear mezz. I think you can get 2 per person. The pairs may not be together, but you can chat at intermission and afterwards.

OH, and in terms of TKTS, it's cash or traveler's check only. I don't think there's a limit on tickets per person ~ but I've never tried to get more than 3.
Virtually all rush is cash only.
Not sure how many of you there are, but Curtains has "partial view" seats (you don't miss that much) for $57 ~ day of. I believe that's cash or charge.

Thanks guys - I appreciate all the help.
There are 3 of us in my group, so ideally we'd like to sit together because if they only sell pairs one person will have to sit alone (which is fine but we'd rather avoid that).
How early does one have to be at the TKTS booth, and where exactly is it located?

Try for the Avenue Q lotto. They have lottery tickets for 21.25.
Or you can check tkts for Q.
Q is my favorite show. (As long as you are all over 12)
PS You have seen a lot of theater. I would suggest doing two shows on Sunday.
Avenue Q and Forbidden Broadway.
Forbidden Broadway has student tickets. It is so much fun.

Both have adult themes and are not for children.

They also have 40 dollar tickets for a great farce:
IS HE DEAD. It was written by Mark Twain and it is a lot of fun.
If you like funny plays it is another must see.

I also loved 39 STEPS. (Roundabout)

remote - the tkts booth is on 46th Street between Broadway and 8th.
the hours are listed on the tdf website - http://www.tdf.org/TDF_SupportPage.aspx?id=68&do=v
and be prepared to show up with cash.

Spring Awakening has 2 shows that day, is almost always at TKTS, and has no bad seats. I highly recommend it, unless your parents are prudish.
I would avoid Xanadu. It's not very fun or funny.

Other than rush or tkts, the cheapest way to shows is broadwaybox.com. They list discounts to every show that has them, and you'll see where you're seated and with no lines.
Oh, and count me in as another recommendation for Xanadu!

Posted: 2/8/08 at 4:11pmJust checked some discounts on Theatermania and Broadway box. They both had the same offer. I have never used Broadwaybox but you can see where you are sitting when you order from Theatermania. And you can choose the seats you want from those that are available from a seating chart.

Posted: 2/8/08 at 4:16pmSame with playbill.com, broadwaybox.com and schooltix.com---as long as the shows are connected to telecharge, not ticketmaster, you can choose the seats, see a decent seating chart, etc.

Thanks for the tips everyone! I'm currently in the city.
We caught Spring Awakening on Saturday night (SRO,which was a GREAT view) and Xanadu this afternoon, which I absolutely ADORED. We leave early Tuesday morning so it looks like this will be it for us, but both shows were well worth it - and I got Student Rush tickets for Xanadu and got great 4th row seats.
