It really pisses me off when these Broadway singers put out CDs. Who do they think they are? They should stay on stage where they belong and leave recording to the pop stars who have a real passion for making hit records. When someone like Brent Barrett or Rebecca Luker puts out a CD, they are taking money away from the real pros like Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears!
There should be a rule that once you choose a particular branch of show business, you can't change! Movie and TV actors are forbidden to do Broadway OR make records, and recording artists are forbidden to act! And Broadway actors are FORBIDDEN to do sitcoms where they will earn at least ten times what they make acting on stage.

I'm going to overlook your sarcasm for a moment...
The difference between a Broadway performer recording a CD and a pop singer going on Broadway is the skills involved. Both groups can sing (hopefully) but only the actors can...you know...act. So crossing over one way is indeed more acceptable than crossing over the other.
I don't usually get into a snit about pop stars on Broadway because they tend to be in shows I don't care about. Beauty and the Beast? LSOH? AIDA? Rent? Yawn. Those shows take up pop stars for a reason...not necessarily just because of bad ticket sales, but because of the type of audience they tend to attract in the first place.
Anyhoo...this topic's old, anyway, as you are probably trying to point out. Give people a chance. Now I'm going to sleep.

There's alot I could say here, about what I think the differences are etc., but defending myself and my opinion to people on the internet is as much of a waste of time as attacking people's opinions on the internet.
I asked an honest question, so thanks for your honest answer. My question was just if this issue bothered anyone else. I guess it doesn't bother you. That's cool. I could go ahead and make a topic making fun of your opinion, but I don't feel a need to stoop that low and have much better things to do...Like sleep for one, since it's midnight and I'm tired. Have a great night! (no sarcasm there, honestly. :))

It's heartening to know there are folks out there who are so unjaded they don't recognize satire.
There are the folks who see DAMES AT SEA and say, "Why are there only six people?" or see Rocky Horror Picture Show and say "the dialogue is really trite and the songs all sound like songs frm the 50's".
