I hope this is on the right board....I used to post ages ago, and re-registered tonight. I couldn't find anything on this topic. My fiancee and I are having a Broadway themes wedding. We have some ideas for music, but want to explore all our options....so, what musical songs are appropriate for a wedding service?
I think the song I'll Cover You is good for a wedding. I mean it's hard to dance to & stuff. I mean it does talk about commitment & support & all of that.

I actually thought that would make a great first song for the reception!
Sun and Moon- Miss Saigon
I'd Do Anything- Oliver
Baby, Dream Your Dream- Sweet Charity
I'm a Brass Band- Sweet Charity
The Next Ten Minutes- The Last 5 Years
Small Talk/There Once Was A Man- Pajama Game
All I Ask of You- Phantom of the Opera
If I Loved You- Carousel
Shall We Dance- The King and I
Somewhere- West Side Story

I really would love "The Next Ten Minutes" played at mine someday, but I'm wondering if that would be like, like, a bad omen.
lol- Only if you make it into one
The Next Ten Minutes is perfect,
also Sunrise, Sunset-Fiddler on the Roof is good but its a little doubty,
One Hand, One Heart- West Side Story

"It's your wedding day"
No.
[Edit: It was a joke. But yeah, it could be a good upbeat song.]

Nevermind! I guess some people don't like it! But my suggestion was something from "The Wedding Singer." "It's your Wedding Day" would get the crowd dancing. Updated On: 6/16/06 at 10:45 PM
Congratulations on your wedding!
I agree with One Hand, One Heart, or I'll Cover You. Good stuff.
All I Ask Of You- THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA
Without You- RENT
I'll Cover You- RENT
As Long As Your Mine- WICKED

I know a few people were joking about The Wedding Singer, but "Grow Old With You" is actually a really pretty song, one that I imagine I will sing at either my engagement party or wedding, if that ever happens!
"Not Getting Married Today" from Company.
Heh.
The first song that came to my mind was also "One Hand, One Heart" from WSS. Also "Love To Me" and "Say It Somehow" are beautiful ballads from LITP. Congrats!
Cheers,

"Getting Married Today" came to mind too!
I think I would save "The Little Things You Do Together" for the 25th wedding anniversary party though.
Some of the slower songs or "It's Your Wedding Day" from the Wedding Singer may be good of course. "Be Our Guest" from Beauty and the Beast may be appropriate when they start passing out the food. When I went to a wedding, they just started passing out some of the food and "Be Our Guest" came on.

I actually had a friend sing "All Good Gifts" from Godspell at mine--during the seating. I just loved that song and wanted to use it. Then my sister had the same friend sing it in her wedding two years later, so it became sort of a family tradition.

"Believe" from The Scarlet Pimpernel would be pretty at a wedding.

Or "You Are My Home," the Percy and Marguerite version.
I sang "The Last Night of the World" from Miss Saigon at my sister's. Dunno if it was appropriate, but we both love that show, so.

Seasons of Love was played at my cousin's wedding this past September.
In Whatever Time We Have - from "Children of Eden"
and "The Next 10 Minutes" is great too, it was sung at my wedding!
