#1Broadway souvenir programs question
Posted: 11/7/07 at 6:52pmIs it true, most souvenir programs on Broadway are in one version only (with original cast members), and then only "Playbills" are updated, or long running shows like "Phantom of the opera" or "RENT" and "Wicked" maybe have updated souvenirs programs with new cast?

Posted: 11/7/07 at 6:57pmIt differs for different shows. I know that Rent is only OBC, but Wicked and Phantom are updated. Hairpsray still has only the original cast, I really wish they would update it.

Exactly. I guess it depends on the show. Most actually DO update it with their current cast. Shows that have been running for several years like MAMMA MIA!, CHICAGO, THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, etc., actually contain photos of the numerous productions like Int'l productions, Nat'l Tours, etc.
What ALL shows actually do is include an insert sheet which is basically the current cast in the show with their headshot photos, like their Playbill bios. Sometimes they'll include production photos with the current cast as well.
When Vanessa Williams replaced Chita Rivera in KISS OF THE SPIDERWOMAN back in August 1994 the souvenir program to the show remained the same (with the original Broadway cast) but they included an insert with several color production photos with Vanessa and her co-stars in the show, especially a large one of her in the "Gimme Love" feathered costumed.

Les Miserables souvenier program was updated when Lea Salonga joined the company. The first one featured Daphne. Wicked and Miss Saigon programs were also updated.

Posted: 11/8/07 at 4:34amYes, I have "Mamma Mia!" program. I bought it, when International tour was in Prague in October. It's amazing program, I love it! So, I think it's the same as Broadway souvenir program.
