I never saw Brooke as Rizzo in Grease when she replaced Rosie in 95. But I just checked out the cast recording of the show with Brooke's added vocals.
Am I the only one who thinks she sounds really good on the CD? I might say - I found her vocals somewhat impressing. I loved Brooke in Wonderful Town, I thought she was just fabulous. But her vocals on the WT cast album didn't really do much for me. I know the role of Ruth dosen't call for a range. But it sounds like Brooke strectched her voice for Rizzo. I hope she shows some more range for Roxie in Chicago - Roxie's songs don't really call for a range, but there are optional things a Roxie can do to show a little more of their range.
I know Brooke dosen't have a stunning voice, or a fabulous range. I just think she can carry a tune quite good, and I wish she got a little work on her voice, because I think it could become quite fantastic - because she does want to perform in an original musical - and if she got some work on her voice - maybe she could play a role with a little more range than what we've heard her use.
So does anyone else enjoy Brooke on the Grease Reissue??

Posted: 7/7/05 at 6:23pmI think her voice was pretty "manipulated" for the GREASE recording as was Rosie O'Donnell's before her...

Oh damn. Well they certainly didn't use studio work on her voice for WT - because she sounded the same in the theater - maybe even a little better in the theater, when I saw her.

Posted: 7/7/05 at 6:30pmWhat makes you think she doesn't have a vocal coach already? I mean I don't know if she does, but I know she's pretty rigorous about taking dancing classes, so I would think she's taken voice lessons too..

I don't know. I just didn't assume she had a voice coach - because she has been playing roles that don't really call for a fantastic voice.
Listening to her vocal technique just leads me to believe she hasn't had much professinal voice work.

I've heard Brooke on the cast recording re-issue and I really like her rendition of "There Are Worse Things I Could Do".
I wonder how Lucy Lawless was when she played Rizzo. Was that on Broadway or a regional production?

All I can think of us that she was in NY on 9/11 and now she's in London for this. Poor thing--this on top of being constantly attacked by Dr. Crazy McCrazykins, I mean Cruise.
I didn't hear her as Rizzo, but I'm feelin' the Brooke love right now. Go Brooke!!
