I agree with you too, Ruthiefan. I saw Brooke in her second performance and wasn't very impressed. I hope she improves for Broadway because it's so evident that her heart is in it, but I understand what you mean. So did several other fan reviews, which I linked on another thread of this topic.

Not to sound rude. But from what I hear the London company as of now in general is very dismal, and bland. The Broadway company still has a strong energy, and I think with this energy Brookes performance will have a new flavor. Plus she is going to get rehearsals with the broadway company which will help. She will be in fine shape.

And as Hanna stated earlier, she herself has seen Brooke dance her butt off. I honestly doubt Brooke will be doing level 1 of MAMB with the Broadway company. Level 1 is extremely simple, it's a bunch of kicks and handclapping lol. I've got to research the levels again, I think Brooke can def. handle level 2, and she could probally work up to level 3 - I believe Paige Davis did level 3. I remember the leaps.

You're right - the London company right now IS very bland and dismal. There was no energy from anyone and I wouldn't be surprised if Brooke's enthusiasm (or lack thereof) was partially a product of that. I was disappointed with the production quality overall, but thought it had a lot of potential, with a capable cast which it seems that Broadway has at the moment. I actually didn't dislike Brooke's dancing - I don't know the level standards, but I found her pretty good. It was her acting and singing that was just passable, not outstanding.

I hope to be seeing Chicago with her in it at the beginning of October though - at the very least, I'll stagedoor it and thank her for being a classy lady over the Tom Cruise meltdown! re: Brooke Shields in West End CHICAGO- July 25ht, 2005!

i thought the london cast was amazing! my parents saw the broadway company, and said the london was a lot better.
and even though brooke might not be the strongest performer, you have to admit she is hilarious in the part.
i loved the show, the cast, and everything about it. that is just my opinion, and i respect everyone elses.
so yup, and all that jazz...

To be honest, I think the London ensemble have definitely improved ALOT and is definitely out of the crisis that every girl look like drag queens! And male ensemble is gd too! Thought it's still hard to replace the AMAZING ensemble with Zak nemorin, Amy Field and Richard Roe.
I think the two leads are the greatest problem! Brooke and Charley are both VERY tall and stands out ALOT in the show. But they did not deliever as much as they look they will! Charley was alright, can sing can dance can act, but not like top class. I mean, her singing and acting is like... 'ok, you're fine...', but her dancing is not as exact and as stylised for fosse! And Brooke is quite ... blah.... and I am SURE she did the 1st level... she was literally walking for god's sake! and it's just literally seeing her walking around the stage singing badly....
But HAVE TO MENTION Clarke Peters - shorter than the both, but DEFINITELY deliver the BEST Billy performance I have seen! He's just EVERYTHING a BILLY should have... and ... YOU SHUD JUST SEE HIM IF YOU CAN! And the Mary Sunshine, WOW! Gave me chills when 'she' reached the high notes!
I mean, overall, the show's GREAT excluding the two leads, but they're So important and yet SO badly performed that it drags down the whole performance... hope you understand what i meant.....
Hope you guys could just spare us Charlotte D'Amboise for awhile.... and also some of your Velmas, e.g Brenda Braxton, Terra McLeod...etc

Broadway people :

Will they invite the critics back when she joins the Broadway company? Like they did for Melanie Griffith? If Brantley raved about Melanie Griffith - I'm sure he'll enjoy Brooke as Roxie - plus he really enjoyed her in WT.

I'm really sorry that you people overseas couldn't experience the magic Brooke had onstage in WT.
