Brooklyn

I have the CD, I enjoy it, I think the singing is great. I just don't understand why people don't like it.

re: Brooklyn

Well, true, the singers are great. I personally haven't seen the show, but I saw them performing in Bryant Park over the summer and I personally didn't like the music.

re: Brooklyn

I liked the cd too...it is another thing all together on the stage. Just does not work.

Did you actually listen to the lyrics?

'The play's the thing' and in this case the book of this show is unbelievable.

re: Brooklyn

The singing is the ONLY thing that's great.

re: Brooklyn

I hate, Hate, HATE the cast recording. But for some odd reason, I found the score passable in the theatre. Granted, the show is crap, but the music was better live.

re: Brooklyn

Well things don't have to be a spectacle to be good, but I still didn't enjoy Brooklyn.

re: Brooklyn

While things dont have to be a spectacle to be be good, it should be the book and music and lyrics that are good, if it doesnt have that to fall back on it can help to have spectacle.

re: Brooklyn

I usually keep quiet when mentions of bklyn are made since so many people here seem to hate it so much. But I just wanted to say that there ARE people out there who love it. I LOVE this show with all of my heart. I'm not saying anyone else has to, I'm just saying that I do. I LOVE everything about it, including the story. I feel like I must just get it on a level that people aren't getting it...cause I think it's absolutely beautiful. The cast is amazingly talented.... Cleavant Derricks is a gift to the stage..has a heart that he shares with the audience each and every performance. Ramona Keller has a powerful voice and has a timing that is just perfect for the show. Karen Olivo is filled with more energy than I've seen on stage in a long time...she brings so much to the show. And Eden... what a powerful, powerful voice. Hearing her sing Streetsinger is one of my all-time favorite theater moments. The set fascinates me and I think the costumes are SO creative and original.

I'm not posting this to start another bklyn war... I just wanted to let it be known that there are some of us out there who DO love the show very much and who think it deserves a chance.

re: Brooklyn

i think they should showcase Heart behind These Hands instead of Raven tomorrow on PAX...that was my favorite along with The Truth but i guess that would give the show away too much to use as a promo. the show itself i have no gripes with but the recording i think can't stand alone so i have to agree a little with pj.

re: Brooklyn

I only heard "Once Upon a Time" and I loved the song. I'd never heard Eden sing like that (in the beginning ... "has anyone ever told youn a fairy tale"), and she made my heart melt. The background singers were annoying though.

re: Brooklyn

I love how people say Eden screams but everyone raves about Cleavant Derricks, who clearly is screaming out of his throat! Gross...he annoyed me greatly.

re: Brooklyn

I couldn't stand Cleavant. I wish the guy from Denver could have come to Broadway. He sounded amazing on the promo CD. Almost everything was better on the promo CD. "Once Upon a Time" sounded very healthy, vocally. On the "BKLYN LIVE!" CD, Eden sounds like she's in pain. I wish they would have nixed the live idea and just gone with a studio recording. The applause is annoying and I think the singers would have sounded better in a closed environment.
