I LOVED the singing. These 5 actors have such tremendous voices. Kevin (Taylor) and Cleavant (Streetsinger) have such a beautiful tone to their voices. Ramona (Paradice) whoa - very different, unbroadway like, strong and clear, Karen (Faith) beautiful, rich sound and Eden...damnnnn.. that girl can SANGGGGGGGGGGG. So soft one minute and the next strong and powerful.
I LOVED the acting. ALL 5 actors made me believe their characters. I was moved to tears mainly by Cleavant and Taylor.
I LOVED the set and costumes. I could have never imagined that almost everything they wore was made of things OTHER than clothes. I never knew a garbage bag could look so GOOD on someone.. and the homeless look was so unbelievablely real I swore I was looking into an alley on the street. The broken down building on stage was such a clever idea that I never knew how they would go 90 minutes without changing the scene but how they did it was MARVELOUS.
Favorite song - Eden singing Once upon a time followed by her duet with Cleavant towards the end.
Favorite character - Tie between Faith - so hip and beautiful she makes you notice her and Paradice - Every scene she was in commanded your attention.
Favorite performer - Cleavant - He told the story so clear, his acting moved me to tears and his voice was such a joy to hear.
Now for the bad....
I HATED the fact that there was no intermission. Those seats are not comfortable enough for 90 minutes straight.
I HATED the fact that Eden did not have another signature song besides Once Upon a time..Her voice is so beautiful to hear she should have song MORE. Actually Paradice to me seemed like the lead in that show.
I HATED that Eden's best number was in the first 5 mintues when it could have been a show stopping "Defying gravity" type ending and THEN they could have an intermission.
I HATED that the 5 actors didnot sing more as a unit because the first song Heart behind these hands is AWESOME. I wanted more of those type songs.
I HATED that Taylor - who is HOT HOT HOT...and Faith did not have another solo musical number because they sure have star quality and fantastic voices.
All in all - I would pay to see it again. I laughed, I cried and it was such a fun night. But to those who know people out there - please....
WE NEED AN INTERMISSION,... GIVE EDEN 2 more SONGS.. she doesn't have enough of them and GIVE FAITH a hip hop street number to rock the house. She can definitely dance and is a joy to watch.
Any questions?
