Brooklyn-Am i crazy?
#0Brooklyn-Am i crazy?
Posted: 12/5/04 at 5:05pmJust returned from Brooklyn, with an incomprehensible story line, songs that have little to do with anything occurring onstage and screeching that almost popped my eardrums. Yet the audience gave a standing ovation. Whatjust happened?

Ya see, it's a fairy tale, so it doesn't have to make sense and that the songs do nothing to advance the "plot" is the creative team's clever homage to musicals pre-1927/Showboat and the lyrics aren't supposed to be any good because that would detract from how high and loud everybody's screetching and the standing ovation is the audience's way of congratulating themselves for having survived 100 minutes of crap.
Does it all make sense now?

Yeah, there are lines down the street for tickets, huh?
Face it, Tiny Toon, 70% attendance for a brand new show is pretty crappy.

Posted: 12/5/04 at 5:39pmWhy is it that people feel the need to be negative towards people who are positive. Bad karma!

Posted: 12/5/04 at 5:39pmUnfortunately, this is the new state of broadway. As much as i hate to say it, audiences eat this sh*t up. But like it or not, crap like this and wicked is what is keeping broadway alive.

70%.. and please do not forget the 97% a week before that..
I really DON'T think 70% is bad.
I think 55% and under is bad.

Posted: 12/5/04 at 5:44pmWhich was the result of "papering" -- it's easy to get high attendance figures if you give away all of the tickets.

Posted: 12/5/04 at 5:46pmReally? That's why it was Brooklyn's HIGHEST gross on Broadway yet right margo?? ??

Posted: 12/5/04 at 6:00pmYes, THEY GAVE AWAY the tickets for a nominal fee -- THAT's why attendance was so high, but the average ticket price was the LOWEST for any musical on Broadway that week -- nobody paid full price to see the show (they still don't). You want impress me with box office figures, show me a week where they get 97% attendance AND the average ticket price is over $70 (as it is for the real hit shows like Wicked, Lion King, The Producers, Hairspray, Mamma Mia et al). Then that would mean you've filled the house with people who were so willing to see the show that they paid the full $96 ticket price -- not with folks who are so thrilled to see a show (ANY show) at half price that they'll stand up for anything that is presented on that stage.

LOL.
My guess they are clapping for Ramona. But I hated it.
Loved Ramona.

Tiny Toon darling,
It is so obvious that you are a shill. I am glad your little groupies are keeping Ramona employed.
I only wish the show was worth seeing.

Posted: 12/5/04 at 6:21pmWith papering there are a great many friends and family in attendance...of course they're going to stand.

If it were not for Ramona, I would have walked out.
It takes a lot for me to walk out. I thought BKLYN the musical had great talent yet the score and story were terrible.
I wanted out of there in such a bad way.
IT WAS TORTURE.
And the Agony song from INTO THE WOODS went off in my head.
That happened at:
Jackie Mason's Musical
Prymate
Adult Entertainment
Boobs The Musical
Vincent The Musical and.....
BKLYN.
So you are not crazy. I hope I don't hear the AGONY song anymore. It Sucks To Be Me.

Posted: 12/5/04 at 7:19pmi was flabbergasted (i love that word!) Besides the cheap looking costumes (not even good tacky, but bad tacky) and cheap set, i had no idea what was going on or why the characters were singing those particular songs. It was bizzaro world. And then people clapped and stood up. I was flummoxed! (another great word!)

Midtowngym, yes you are crazy! Come on, everyone knows this show is "THE BEST" show ever to hit the Broadway stage, and the role is one of "the most greatest and challenging" in Broadway history. :-P
Just kidding.
