Bryant Park Show Cancelled !

Bryant Park Show Cancelled !

After receiving an email from Lite-FM yesterday assuring me that the concert would be performed as scheduled; they have wisely cancelled today's performance. The temperature would reach 97 in the shade and folks sitting in the sun would be subject to temps well over 120. This was the wise thing to do; although I am extremely disappointed. It's unfair to expect performers who are donating their energies to subject themselves to possible heat stroke. I was dreading sitting in the blazing sun, but was determined to do so. Hopefully, they will perform next season.

What they should do is make next weeks longer and add the performers from this week. Well, at least Lion King.
My Niece was so dissappointed. She loved it last week.
I hope that Lion King will be added next week.

You people are so bitchy! Just wear a baseball cap and bring lots of water.

Do you think anyone complains about the weather at the ball parks? NO!

You New Yorkers...

It is cancelled. How are we being bitchy??
I would have gone but I would never take a 2 year old into this heat.

It sucks that they cancelled the show. I'm talking about everyone complaining about the heat.

Give me a NYC zipcode please.

The should just add on an extra week, like they did last year when one day was cancelled because of rain.

It does suck that they cancelled it, but Fiction Writer, if you're not here, you have no idea how freakin' hot it is. I'm from Arizona where it's reaching 115-120 and it's doable. I'm here for the summer and the humidity is killer. Performers, audience, whatever, it sucks right now.

FictionWriter, you have no clue how hot in can get in the city. Not only is it 110 in the sun, imagine waiting on the subway platform, as well all do every day, waiting and sweating from the dead air and trains coming.

After comparing, I have found out that the weather of NYC and Sherman, TX are, give or take a few degrees in both temperature and humidity are the same.

I'm sorry about complaing about your complaining. Complain all you want.

And actually, right now, it's 87o (but feels 93o) in NYC.

Pregnant woman dies after collapsing at Fenway
By Jessica Heslam
Boston Herald Media Reporter

Tuesday, August 1, 2006 - Updated: Aug 2, 2006 01:51 AM EST

On one of the hottest days of the year so far, a 28-year-old pregnant woman died after collapsing at Fenway Park Saturday afternoon, but her baby survived, officials said yesterday.

Boston police were called to Gate B inside the park about 3:15 p.m. to help Fenway Park security with a female who was initially treated for heat exhaustion, said police spokesman John Boyle.

The woman, whose name was not released, was taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center by Armstrong Ambulance Service, which covers the park during a ballgame. A hospital spokeswoman would not release any information last night.

“Our sympathy’s with the family and hopefully the baby will do OK,” said Mark Schofield, director of clinical services for Armstrong Ambulance.

Instead of complaining that today's show was cancelled, we should all email LITE-FM to request that an extra show be added. Since the City had declared a Heat Emergency, they had no choice but to cancel. Anyone getting heatstroke due to such heat could bring a lawsuit against the radio station, the City and/or the park.

I wish Texas had "Heat Emergency" days. That'd be every day between Easter and Halloween.

We get it. Texas is hot. The fact that it's hot there does not negate the fact that it's dangerously hot here.

Just to put this into perspective, the Dixie Chicks cancelled their performance at Nikon @ Jones Beach Theatre last night, and that's here on Long Island. It's definitely hotter in the city, as it always is, since Jones Beach is on the ocean.

So we have every right to be complaining, seeing as a Texan country band cancelled their performance due to the heat.

I went to the Jimmy Buffet concert here in Philly on Tuesday and I do not think I have ever spent that much time outside in such heat. We tailgated in the parking lot before the concert starting at 3 pm and then the concert was outside on the Camden waterfront. There was 2 -3 dozen people taken away to the hospital per the news. It was 100 and the feels like was 112.

So, I can completely see why the concert in Bryant PArk was canceled.

Also, those in Texas are used to this type of heat. We in the Northeast are not.

If you would really go sit in the sun in 120 degree head index for this, you're insane.

Think about the pavement, which in essence spits the heat back up at you, although there's not much spacefor it to go, seeing as we have tall buildings on every side. Then consider that the NYC temperature taken in Central Park isn't really acurate because it's hotter everywhere else.

I've lived in Texas. This heat is worse -- not only because of the other reasons mentioned, but because Texas is so used to this sort of heat that every building, even the cheapest housing, has a great central air system. Not the case here. Plus, no one in Texas walks anywhere. The only time they have to deal with the heat is when walking from their air conditioned car to an air conditioned building.

"And actually, right now, it's 87o (but feels 93o) in NYC."

i know you posted that like 2 hours ago, but that's complete crap. anyone who is in the city right now can tell you that it is nowhere near 93. it's about 108 where I am right now. And i just slept through a night that never went below 90. to make matters worse, to conserve energy buildings are lowering their A/C if not shutting it off all together (as was the case at my friends office). i think we have the right to complain. (ps. the heat also makes people bitchy)

The past 2 days, I've been walking up the escalators and stairs from the subway to go to my office at 7:00 a.m. and the heat is so oppressive that I can hardly catch my breath. And that's 7:00 a.m. Imagine what it's like at 3:00 p.m.
