"He's still in the cast according to the website."
From what I was told a few weeks ago by someone with the production, he notified them that he was not returning.
"There really isn't anything wrong with him doing things while he is hurt. I can understand that it is going to hurt and cause more damage if he is dancing on stage. But, there really isn't a problem with him going out and doing stuff."
No one is faulting him for going out and doing stuff. The poster you're addressing was simply asking if Titus had indeed left the Mermaid cast since he'd been seen out and about at times when there was a show going on at the L-F. It had been more than a month since the original post discussing this injury and there had been no updates so Vespertine was simply asking a question. But if he wants to go out to dinner during his time off there's really no fault with that as long as he doesn't get out on the dance floor. And heaven forbid he attend a charity event.

Walking over to dinner and attending a charity event is different from performing on the Lunt-Fontanne stage.
I don't know if this means anything but when I saw it on 9/20, Alan Mingo Jr was listed in the Playbill as Sebastian and not Titus. Would it be safe to assume that if Titus was still with the show he would be listed as Sebastian and Mingo would have the been on slip in the Playbill to show the understudy is going on? Or is it typical, that if an actor is to be out for several months, they do replace their name in the Playbill? I'm not sure how that works.

Exactly.

Since Titus has been (and will continue to be) out of the show for an extended period of time it's probably more cost-effective and easier to have Alan's name in the playbill as opposed to an insert. Imagine having to put the insert in the playbill 8 shows a week for two months. The time spent doing that could surely be better used doing other things.

I don't believe there is any hard rule dictating the information in the Playbill. I have seen where even a vacationing actor has been replaced entirely in the Playbill, only to be reinserted upon return. It depends on the circumstances. There may even be contractual obligations with the production (Playbill prints the information as provided by the production itself).
Oh i wish Titus would return! I saw Alan Mingo as Sebastian and I was really dissapointed. He did an ok job but he can't hit the crazy high notes like Titus does. It's kinda a let down if you've seen Titus or have heard him on the cd.
Hope he has a speedy recovery. I saw him in the show in Denver and got to chat with him a bit after the show. A very talented and very nice man.
