There is a planned film update of this musical, I believe Sony Pictures is doing it. It's from a pitch by a first time director right out of USC film school. He would like to make it more contemporary, for a current audience. Not sure what he means by that, but knowing this town...it can't be good.

Posted: 5/10/04 at 6:18pmNO (and I repeat) NO jennifer lopez as Rosie or any character please. She does NOT have a beautiful voice. She can act but thats only sometimes, and she can dance. I always have thought she was a much better actress then a singer anyway.

You don't think she could handle "An English Teacher", and "Spanish Rose"? The songs are NOT hard AT ALL. She could definitely do them, and pretty well, too. I think she'd be amazing in the role, to be honest with you.
And yes, I was casting Swayze as ALBERT.

Posted: 5/10/04 at 9:07pmThe songs for Rosie are really quite simple. Janet Leigh (who I absolutely worship) is not a great singer by any means and she got by with them in the 1962 version. Lopez is a much better singer than Leigh and she's Latina too. She actually is perfect casting, now that I think of it.

I think a popstar should be cast as Birdie, to bring in sales. I think JC Chasez could do it; he has a good voice, and the role is INCREDIBLY easy to act.
And as Mr. Macafee....Nathan Lane?

But does anybody else think it is bad timing for this movie. That Tad Hamiliton movie (though i didnt see it) had almost the exact same storyline as BBB. If this was released would people see it, being that something VERY similar to it was just in theatre?
Though scattered and divided we are still its heart...AIDA SEPTEMBER 5th, 2004...one more longing backward glance...

Jlo couldn't act her way out of a veil of cheesecloth, so thats a thumbs down for Rose. Im thinking of a winona ryder or reese witherspoon with dark hair..maybe penelope cruz. What about whatsherface from Chicago...Michael Douglas' wife. She did pretty good in that film. PLEASE... PLEASE../ FOR GODS SAKE dont put Tyne Daly or Bernadette Peters in as Alberts' mother!! Doris Roberts? No way... too obvious & hence boring...it's like casting Edward Herrman as FDR in Annie. HOw about Carol Kane or Glenn Close

Of course Jessica Grove is the best choice, but Lindsay Lohan is more suited for the role in a MOVIE setting.

Posted: 5/15/04 at 3:21pmThe remake is supposed to be "Hip-hop/urban" so since they already have Lohan (who is neither hip-hop or urban) They might put someone in there like Nick Cannon as Birdie. Of those suggested so far. J-Lo is the only one that one that is hip/hop/urban.
