Bye Bye Birdie with Lindsay Lohan!

Posted: 5/15/04 at 3:21pmThe remake is supposed to be "Hip-hop/urban" so since they already have Lohan (who is neither hip-hop or urban) They might put someone in there like Nick Cannon as Birdie. Of those suggested so far. J-Lo is the only one that one that is hip/hop/urban.

I've said it before and I'll continue saying it: TSMrMcC would be the perfect Albert Peterson. He sings, dances and acts well.
For Mr. McAfee, how about George Wendt?
Conrad? Justin T.
BTW: at the talk-back after the Encores! BIRDIE, Adams and Strauss admitted they hated the film version and consider the title song the worst thing they've ever written. The director of the film demanded it because he had a "thing" for Ann-Margaret.

Yeah, truthfully I'm not even thrilled with my choice for Rosie. I just can't think of anyone that could play her well, so I threw in anyone that popped into my mind. :[
Rosie Perez was just a different option in my mind since some did not like the idea of Jennifer Lopez.

It cracks me up that someone said that Jennifer Lopez can't act her way out of a paper bag, and then mentions Winona Ryder as Rosie instead! Reese Witherspoon?!? Aside from being a decade too young, talk about whitebread!
I think JLo or Catherine Zeta-Jones are good choices. They would certainly sell tickets if it were a theatrical motion pic. As good as Jessica Grove might be in this also, no one outside of the theater world knows her, and producers would undoubtedly go for a name.
Tyne Daly and George Wendt already played Mrs. Peterson and Mr. McAfee in the TV version ... or was that poster kidding?
I like the idea of Nathan Lane as Mr. McAfee. He is, basically the Paul Lynde of this era. (Meant as a compliment, of course.)
Justin Timberlake as Conrad? Isn't he like eleven years old? He seems it anyway. Let's give it to Marc Kudisch again. But if they want to sell tickets, I guess any old pop star would do. Not a difficult role. Difficult to cast, yes, but not to play. Johnny Depp anyone?
Lindsay Lohan is a great choice.
Did anyone else see the tour starring Tommy Tune, Ann Reinking, Susan Egan and Marc Kudisch years ago? It was enjoyable, but whoever told Tommy Tune he could come across as a heterosexual was badly mistaken.

Posted: 5/16/04 at 10:40amI would go see it if they stayed closer to the show. I mean, they totally changed everything in the first one. Albert is a scientist? There's a turtle who runs really fast? He sings Put on a Happy Face to Rosie? I totally understand why Paul Lynde and Dick Van Dyke weren't happy with it.

>Sorry, but the worst musical ever written has to be awarded to >THOU SHALT NOT.
Haven't seen this. I have seen THE MUSIC MAN, which is one song in search of a musical to be in.

>Am I the only one who liked the remake?
I thought the remake was OK, I've always been surprised by Jason Alexander, especially in a musical role.
I enjoyed watching how they "cleaned up" the mother's blatent racism.

After seeing him on The Broadway Love Songs special, I'd like to suggest Bret Spiner as Albert. He's got the slight con-man edginess the part would require.
...and if they're going for "urban hip-hop," they're either going for a black Birdie or an Eminem type. If they're going for a black rapper who's been made into an icon type character, Will Smith?

I'm sorry, I can't follow the acronym.

Posted: 5/16/04 at 3:55pmOoh...Catherine Zeta Jones...that might possibly be interesting. And I'm sorry but anything that Lindsey is in I automatically don't even take seriously...I'll see it and laugh at her. My friend and I made up a song for Teenage Dramaqueen...that girl was a push up bra wearing ecstacy using drama bitch...and that's just the first line. She's not entertaining and I really don't think this would be a good part for her...maybe something else...next thing they'll cast her as Maureen in the Rent movie...then I think I'd have to hang myself!
