CAGNEY to close, go to LA...and then Broadway?

I will second that rave. I saw this at the York, and thought it was wonderful and had a uniformly excellent cast and especially great choreography. That said, it seemed suited to a smaller venue, like the Westside because it made the personal parts of the plot more touching. A move to Broadway might have the same effect I felt with the recent FIDDLER revival: too big for its own good.

I didn't realize it was still running off Broadway.

I wonder if this will take the unannounced show slot at the Ahmanson for next season!! So happy this will come here as I did not get a chance to see it when I was in New York!

I'm really hoping it isn't going to the Ahmanson. Still holding out hope that the unannounced show is Sunset.

OMG that would be beyond amazing....even though I am seeing it in NYC next month I would probably attend multiple times here in LA. Based on what I have heard of this show it sounds like it might play better at the mark taper forum.

That's what I was thinking! It'd probably be a perfect fit there. It also seems like the unannounced show is there for a few months, as the show before that ends late December and the one after starts in May.

This has Pasadena Playhouse or La Mirada Theater written all over it. Exactly the kind of stuff they like to do. Don't really see it as CTG or Geffen's type of material.

What a joke that press release is. Wake me up when this show comes to B'way - sometime around the twelfth of Never. I cannot believe anyone would rave about this show. First off, obviously it played zero of the LA theaters mentioned here - it played a "limited" run at the El Portal Theater in North Hollywood - where I saw it. It did not do well there, not at all. As is always the case in LA - the reviews were good because, well, that's what they get in LA. They lucked out with the LA Times and got a fourth string reviewer - she didn't love it but was kind. The tapping was fine, the actors were okay, but the book was dreadful. My two centimes.

I enjoy the album. I find "Falling in Love" particularly amusing but I would imagine the show is just not ideal for Broadway. They ran for 500+ performances Off-Broadway, you'd think that would be the end of the road.
