I get what amoni2 meant. There's a ton of room between legendary superstars like Lupone and Peters, and the next couple levels of broadway stars. I don't see why she couldn't move up to leading lady level if that's her goal.
I agree that DeGarmo is probably one or two roles away from truly establishing herself as a leading actress in broadway musicals but I don't think the role of Carrie would be it. I'd rather see her do one or two more supporting roles, especially roles like Chris that allow her to play against type. If she handles those as well as she's handled playing Penny and Sarah then she's a good candidate for a lead role. She's young, talented,has a great voice and she loves working in musicals. No harm in her trying to move up to the next level.
