Diana DeGarmo, is she Chris? I wonder if it will remain a dance role.
Good for John Arthur Greene and Matt Doyle.

The idea of dance being such a huge component of the show was really something that was introduced when Debbie Allen came onboard as choreographer.
Liz Callaway played Chris in all the early workshops and she definitely isn't a dancer.
Only a reading yes, but my guess is that they are going back to the pre Terry Hands-Debbie Allen visualization of this as a stage musical...

Yes, I think Debbie Allen had a big hand in turning Carrie into more of a dance show than it was originally intended to be. I'm very interested to hear any news of how this reading goes.

Who is Damiano playing if Ranson is Carrie? Sorry...brain fart.

Posted: 11/12/09 at 2:19pmI agree, the show wasn't really a dance musical before Hands/Allen got a hold of it. A great many people in the industry were taken with the show after its first workshop, back when it had a full-out book. If they are going back to that version/format (hopefully), please let them keep "In" instead of reverting back to "Ain't It A Bitch."

Tourboi, the workshop that is recorded and that most people saw featured "Ain't it a Bitch." "In" was written after the idea came about for the opening to be a dance number, so if they were reverting to anything it would be "Aint it a Bitch"
At any rate, somebody on ATC is reporting that 8 songs have been cut and 9 new songs have been written for the workshop. I think its safe to say that its pretty likely there will be a new opening number.

So... is anyone else wondering why there are three guys listed as starring roles? Originaly Billy and Tommy were the only two male leads. Are they adding the principal back into the mix?
Also, I am predicting/hoping that the 8 cut songs are In, Dream On, Don't Waste the Moon, Do Me a Favor, Out for Blood, It hurts to be strong, I'm not alone, and Wotta Night. Any thoughts?

I personally prefer just about every song that was in the original workshop and replaced for Broadway. I wonder if any of them will reappear in this reading.
I would imagine that list is pretty acurate, whatacharacter. I think the title song "CARRIE" is way too overwought and hope they change it.

When is the reading?

They may be adding the role of the principal and/or the male teacher back into the show. In the original workshop there was a scene that featured all the kids in an english class. It also included a song called "Tommy's Poem". I think it would be great if they put this song back in, as it does add a bit of character development for Tommy and establishes Carrie's crush on Tommy.
Anyway, playbill has the official news release up:
EDIT: Sorry, I didn't realize it was posted in another thread

Michael Bennett, I know "Aint it a Bitch" was in the workshop that came first. My point was simply that I (personally) think that "In" is a better opening number, since it's about the importance of fitting in.

I'm very excited to attend this reading! I'll post my thoughts immediately following.
My two good friends, Bud Weber and Emily Ferranti, are in this reading and I couldn't be happier for them!
What a great cast.

Posted: 11/12/09 at 4:59pmI hope they don't cut "I'm Not Alone". Couldn't they just cut the telekinetic dance break since that seems to be what everyone dislikes about the number? The song itself is one of my favorites.

what does a 29-hour reading mean?
'As previously reported, Stafford Arima (Altar Boyz, Tin Pan Alley Rag, Somewhere in Time, London's Ragtime) will direct the 29-hour Equity reading that will take place in Manhattan Nov. 20'

I agree - I love that song. Just tweak up a few of the lyrics and cut the dance sequence.
BTW I love the opening with "In." Extreme dance-work-out thing or not, I like it.
I think the problem that they've had to touch up on is that many of the songs have a couple of good lyrics, followed by atrocious ones that really need to be changed. I love the song "Carrie," but it just needs some change lyric-wise.

She is amazingly talented, good genes.

I love "In". Sure, the lyrics need some polish, but the music, scene and attitude fit well together, especially with those Miss Gardner belts soaring over the chorus of girls.
I like "I'm Not Alone", but I'm not wild about it. I'm hoping the new songs will fill in some of the gaps that "I'm Not Alone" fails to address.

For what it's worth, one of the cast members (I think Diana) said on twitter that almost everything has been changed from the original-book, music, lyrics. They almost have to gut it in order to get people to give it a second look.
I know there might not be an exact answer for this but I've had a question about readings I've been meaning to ask. On average, for a show that is pretty much ready to go, how much time does it take to go from a reading to an actual revival?
