Chaplin did pretty well in groses last week $500k at 78% capacity. Avg tix price is decent at $79--it's a very small house. And yes they're nut is low. No big stars, small cast, no big special effects. I bet they'll hang on until early Jan probably a Jan 6 close. Can't imagine they'l last through the winter unless the producers are optimistic about Tony chances but I wouldn't put ay money on that either.

I don't think they are making their "nut".

Shows, esp. musicals are very expensive to run these days,
most nuts are at least 600k.

I give these producers a lot of credit. It openned to universally bad reviews but the producers believed in their show so they keep it open. Thank goodness they have a cash reserve for commercials and advertising. And it's not doing badly--- around $525,000 per week.

It's certainly worth seeing for the performance of Rob McClure and is surely not the worst musical on the boards today.

I just wished other producers (Yes I am talking to the producers of Bonnie and Clyde) gave their show some time to find its audience.

Yes it's a flawed show but I respect this production team.

"It openned [sic] to universally bad reviews but the producers believed in their show so they keep it open."

You mean unlike those producers who sheepishly closed their shows out of deference to reviewers, even though they had plenty of money to keep running?

"It's ... surely not the worst musical on the boards today."

And that's the sort of comment that sends people running to the box office, flinging wads of cash in a desperate attempt to get a ticket?

The originals reviews for Chicago weren't that good.
Now it's considered a masterpiece.

Opinions are like assholes everyone has one. Even you.

I did not like Chaplin because it tried to compress 80 years of a life into two hours. It was the Wikipedia of Musicals. My opinion aside.....the ordinary average audience does.

Spiderman is the worst piece of theatrical garbage I have ever sat through and its grosses 1, 7 mill per week.

Wicked (which in my humble opinion is a great musical) opened to mixed reviews.

It takes guts and faith on a producers part not to always listen to critics.

Memphis got decidedly mixed reviews and it won the Tony Award.

I have had to sit painfully through Phantom of the Opera which had accolades but in my opinion is one of the most tedious musicals to sit through.

Yes. It takes faith, determination, stamina to keep a show going and give their investors a chance at making some money versus pulling the plug because the critcs were unkind to it.

It amazes me that anyone likes Spiderman.... but some people do. And as much as I didn't love Chaplin, I would rather sit through than 5 more times than sit through Spiderman, Phantom, Bring it On, even once.

"It takes guts and faith on a producers part not to always listen to critics."

Actually, it takes money, and if they don't have it, the show closes. It's really as simple as that. It's not about reviews. It's not about who likes it and who doesn't. It's not about "quality." It's about money.

Correct Newintown.

Guts and faith mean nada if the Producers don't have the bread to pay the rent.

Are you comparing Chicago to Chaplin as far as the music, the staging, the talent? Curious.
