CHAPLIN IS NOT CLOSING-JUST A RUMOUR#1

There is absolutely no truth to this rumour. I talked to the manager of the show at the theater today and it is not true. The show is sold out tonight and been going very well. It has a low running cost and is making above that and future sales are growing and they opened up a new block of tickets through June. Rumours like this are just that rumours.

Manager of the show? I've worked on shows where lots of folks had titles but I never knew a MANAGER on a broadway show.

The only thing I know is sometimes when rumours are true, people deny them.

I do think Chaplin is planning on staying open and hope it does!

Yeah because a 'manager' of a show is going to openly admit to a random patron that the show they are about to see is not doing well and will be closing soon.

A "manager" is not a producer. Only the producers know the truth.

Every show has lots of managers: a general manager, a company manager, a house manager among others. Of course, we don't know what manager this person spoke to, or under what circumstances, but a general manager is generally as likely or more likely to know what's up as any random producer. In the case of this show, moreover, the general manager (as is fairly often the case) is also one of the principal producers.

Didn't most people here rather go with the thinking that it likely was not true? Even the original OP didn't claim it as gospel -- just as something he heard.

But joining today just to but the end to a slight rumor is a bit desperate. Especially starting a new thread about it.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I never said it was official. I said it was something that was being discussed, but thar obviously means "THE SHOW IS CLOSING TOMORROW" to a lot of people.

I heard it was in trouble a month ago. I'm surprised it's hung on this long.

It was in trouble as soon as the reviews came out. I can't believe it's still running.

But good luck to them.

....but the world goes 'round

^I don't remember all of the reviews being that bad, but with the title alone, I still think they may have a chance at finding an audience with tourists and old people if they can hang on for a bit.

I wasn't there but my friend was and he said it was just like any outher performance except when it ended it was the last one ever instead of it just being the last one of the day.

Chaplin was Amazing! Except for the critics that gave it a thumbs down, everyone else (and I mean EVERYONE else) is writing fantastic reviews about it.
