Posted: 11/2/04 at 9:17pmI was reading the box office charts for the week before Halloween. Chicago was playing at 95% attendance. I wonder what was the last show that at this point in their run ; was able to fill those seats.

"Why is this show THIS popular?"
Have you seen it? It IS awesome, but hard to really describe why it is so wonderful unless you have seen it. That show is so full of energy, its just THAT good!

chicago has an addicting score...
it has alot of infectious songs. once i went three months with "we both reached for the gun" running non-stop through my head..day AND night. another time it was "cell block tango", then "all that jazz". but that's true for all kander-ebb songs.
seriously, it's a great show and deserves the long run it's enjoying. the film version only solidified what a great show it is and got those who normally wouldn't have gone to the theatre interested enough to go see it on stage.
ENJOY!

Posted: 11/3/04 at 6:13pmI also think the show has been marketed beautifully. And the fact that every time the leading ladies change the whole energy of the show becomes new.

I was trying to answer this same question one day and all I could think to say was that it was just plain FUN. It's a fun show, very entertaining, and gives you a very entertaining evening.
The funniest thing was that a couple of weeks ago we were talking about the movie and my mom (80 years old now) overheard us and thought we were talking about the theatre. First thing out of her mouth was "Isn't that a really fun show?"
A click for life.

Posted: 11/3/04 at 7:04pmI dont know. I guess I can see it being a 2 year show but why a decade long show?
re: CHICAGO. A TRIUMPHANT RUN!#11
Posted: 11/3/04 at 7:29pmBecause people like it. Because people enjoy repeated viewings. The score is sensational, and the constant cast changes kep it fresh.

Bronx is such an idiot.
People gave the right reasons why it's still hot and running! Plus they have cast changes often, so the show is always fresh!
re: CHICAGO. A TRIUMPHANT RUN!#13
Posted: 11/3/04 at 8:37pmbecause it opened 2 weeks after A Chorus Line in its original run. and now everyone is seeing it. not to mention the very successful movie that came out 2 year ago.

The movie did great things for the stage show. It brought CHICAGO to a much wider audience who might not have given the show a second glance had it not been for the movie. (did that make sense? Im sick and heavily medicated lol)
You also have to remember that the Ambassador is a sigificantly smaller house than the Shubert, so it's easier for Chicago to fill it to capacity. The Weisslers' may not be the most favored producers on Broadway, but they certainly seem to know what they're doing if Chicago has stayed open this long... and good for them -- it's kept a few of my friends very gainfully employed and if for nothing else, I'm thankful for that.... as are many other people.
