i hope the shows do well considering the city is going to be so hard to get in and out of and to move in once and if u can get in... Updated On: 8/27/04 at 12:46 PM
Shows probably will not do well that week. Tourists are avoiding the city that week, so the only shows that will be packed are those with the free republican tickets. A lot of shows are actually giving heavy discounts for a few days during the convention to try and bring more people into the city.
might be a swell time at TKTS--too bad i missed Donna Murphy--are they changing any of the standing room/rush policies?
TKTS will probably be empty. Everyone I know is avoiding the city that week. Sucks first weekend in a long time that I am not going to the theatre!

Tourists aren't the only ones avoiding NYC. LOL.
It's funny because I lived in NYC in 92 when they held the DNC and I don't remember anything about craziness. Obviously times have changed.
That's because of the hostility the majority of New Yorkers feel towards the GOP.
Regarding traffic...
This is NYC. Get off your lazy ass from your limo and walk!
please dont remind me lol...I was told by 1 cop that people should have at least 3 forms of ID to get to where they need to go due to 100000 check points...AHHHHHH

I'm going on the last day of the convention. Now I want to go during it, just to go to TKTS
is it really true that shows can start at anytime if the parties decide to come up further west?
You can always go to the TKTS booth at South Street Seaport and avoid Times Square completely; which, if you live in NYC, is the only way to go--i h8 times square!

I heard the Republicans are going to these shows:
Wonderful Town
Fiddler On The Roof
Bombay Dreams
Beauty and The Beast
Aida
am I missing any. I was listening to Sirius Sat. Radio and the guy said "They cant go to see The Boy From OZ...theres a gay guy in it...They cant go see Avenue Q for obvious reasons....and they cant go see Wicked because its full of minorities"
I thought it was kinda funny...and Im a Republican lol

true though...
Guess the Republicans have no other choice than to go Shakalaka-ing...
lildogs - Hey, if you are talking about student tickets for wonderful town they still have them. And I am pretty sure if it is sold out you can get standing room. Hope you get to see the show, shes amazing!

Heh. I thought I'd be in college the whole weekend, but I might be joining some classmates in a protest. And no traffic jam is going to keep me away. :)
I'm going to the Producers tomorrow...I'm sure no Republicans will be there for the obvious gay references...hell they have a song called Keep it Gay! Anyway...this is a positive week for me this is like a holiday...I'll hopefully get my chance to see all the hard to see shows. I still havent seen Avenue Q!!!!
Our news said that Denver is #3 on the list of places New Yorkers will escape to during the convention.

Even though I am a sucker for discounts, I am too afraid to go into the city because of "you know what"
Its a sad world we live in.

Republicans can't avoid gay references, even in the shows they bought group tickets for. Isn't there a gay or tranvestite character in Bombay Dreams, or am I completely deluded?

I know who ur talking about...I hope its someone who is gay or else it is a realllllllly ugly woman lol.
Shows will NOT do well, in fact the downturn started over two weeks ago and will continue until the RNC leaves whereupon the usual annual downturn in September will start.
THAT is why so many shows are closing.
I remember the Democratic gubernatorial primary involving Cuomo and Koch. "Vote For Cuomo, Not For The Homo" That slogan wasn't penned by a Republican. Updated On: 8/28/04 at 08:08 PM
