Mother Mother, Make It STOP!!
I can't remember seeing anything this bad on Broadway in a long time. I support the actors and crew but boy does this stink.
The score is actually worse then YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN, each song sounded like some other song and the lyrics are abysmall.
Most of the actors are very talented but the material is so putrid they are unfortunately swimming in mush.
The one exception is the lead, CRYBABY himself!
I can't believe they couldn't find an attractive guy who had a little charisma, what were the casting people thinking?
We got no programs so I will omit names of the guilty.
Poor Harriet Harris.
I liked the pregnant girl and the insane girl.
This whole thing depressed me and made me a little sick to my stomach.
Thank goodness I was with a cute date, but now I have to make it up to him.
Oh, well.

Yikes. I'm seeing the first preview... Uhoh.

I had a great time, i was thoroughly entertained, the show was very clever, the cast was fantastic, the choreography was amazing.

it may not have been about minorities or pregnant teenagers but that doesn't make it bad! sure its a splashy musical, but it was a well done splashy musical. i dont know what theater curtainpulldowner was in... but i, along with the most of the audience, had a great time.

popular elphie, I don't think you are a shill, I was just responding to the idea of people defending serious shows or fun shows by using a similar tactic.

I had no plans whatsoever to go, but a friend randomly invited me, so... yeah. I did enjoy myself very much. It had plenty of flaws. It was a good 20 minutes too long, a decent number of the leads weren't suited to their parts, and the score was highly derivative. That said, there were several great people in it, the book was funny enough, and a lot of the songs were very fun. It won't win awards or get good reviews, and I doubt it'll be a huge critical success. That said, I'd be happy if it had a reasonable amount of success and stayed open for a good couple months.

Speaking of open... or good... the guy in the denim vest? I'm not sure of his name, but placement and technique-wise, he seemed like he was probably the dance captain... DAMN. I'm glad I didn't see him in public, because if he were close enough to touch I literally don't know what I'd be capable of doing to him.

This is exactly why message boards are barring reviews of previews & rehearsals. It's why shows like Merrily We Roll Along bombed so horribly. It's a dress rehearsal. Previews haven't even started yet. If you saw Sunday in the Park With George at this point in it's Broadway career the show would have been mising Finishing he Hat and Children and art. All creative types would say about their show at this point would be "Work needs to be done."

I haven't seen Cry Baby and have no idea what it's going to be like but I do think it deserves to open before it gts slaughtered.

Hey, you can trash whatever you want. Previews and rehearsals are for finishing a show. Changes are made every single night in most cases. But people "review" a show at this point and poison the atmosphere so badly that it never gets a chance. That's why real media embargo reviews until opening night- that's when the show is "Done."

A review from a critic, I understand. But we're just reading the opinion of regular theater goers. We know nothing about each other. If they are teenagers or professional critics passing incognito, we don't know - But you know they will share it with family and friends, and come here just to express their opinion.

I'm familiar with a few posters here, and after reading what they think of shows, I know a few who have similat taste than me.
A lot of people bashed Passing Strange during previews, but I know I will enjoy it, it is something I'd like to see.

I think the answer is not to stop others from expressing what they thought, but taking every single post here at face value - a theatergoer's thoughts on the evening and learn how to take that in an educated way.
