CURTAINS Closing Weekend Details Here

I went to the last Saturday evening show. I didn't want to miss it while I had the chance to see it. It's a fairly decent, enjoyable show. I enjoyed Debra Monk the most. I was not thrilled about Erin Davie, who pretty much played Edie Beale.

I hated the audience. The woman sitting next to me was eating a bag of chips, and the girl in front of me was digging through her noisy bag of candy. The man sitting behind me was laughing so loud, I was paying more attention to his laughter than I was at the stage. The show wasn't even that funny.

Standing ovation when David Hyde Pierce came out. Whoop dee do.

I'll be at the final performance today.

I saw it Friday night and enjoyed it as well. Also issues with the audience, as I had some eaters and chatters in my area (front orch left, seriously?).

Something kind of shocking to me: there was major phasing between cast and orchestra whenever the "The Man Is Dead" theme was sung/played. I don't know if everyone noticed, but the conductor was very steady with his tempo and the cast just rushed away with their "Ooooo"s. It was particularly noticeable because of the timpani keeping the quarter note pulse. For people who've been recently/frequent the show- is that a common occurrence? I certainly hope it was an isolated incident!

I was supposed to go this afternoon but somethingcame up. Very enjoyable show that I wish had a longer run on Broadway. Hope everyone who is going today has a blast! :)

I'll be in attendance. Also, we just bought a ticket for a younger family member who wanted to see the show. He's about two seats away from us, so would it be ok to ask the two people inbetween to shift down towards the aisle one seat?

Depends on where you are sitting. The polite thing to do would be to ask them to move further toward the center, since they would be doing you a favor by moving.

And in other news, I just got my ticket for today! Curtains was my first opening night on Broadway, and now it'll also be my first closing.

I was there today, First time that I saw it with a friend who was seeing it for the third time. I've been to 500 or so plays and musicals and this was the first time to see a closing.

There were long ovations after big numbers and Debra Monk,Karen Ziemba and the others had to compose themselves for a moment before going on.

The producers came on stage at curtain and they introduced the crew and Rupert Holmes.
Then the curtain came down on "Curtains."

Just some more random details/description for those not there:

There was, of course, tons of applause for everyone and everything. It was clear the audience knew the show that they were seeing: for example, Patty Goble even got lengthy, show-stopping entrance applause in recognition of her single hilarious scene as Jessica, even before she did anything. Also, during "It's A Business," everyone applauded when the main body of the song began (after "it's time for you to know why I really back this show"). Megan Sikora's Princess Kickipoo (??? no idea how to spell that) character also got her own entrance applause during Kansasland.

Almost everyone in the orchestra section was on their feet after "It's a Business." Not sure about the mezz. "Tough Act To Follow" got a standing ovation from maybe a third of the orchestra.

The end of the "Show People" number was one of the most emotional moments of the afternoon, even more so than the curtain call. From the fourth row, I could see the looks that everyone onstage was exchanging with each other. It's kind of hard to explain, I guess, but you can imagine what would be running though everyone's mind as almost the entire company performed their anthem about the joys of show business and show people for the last time. Everyone in the audience sensed it too, I think.

The producers came on stage at the end and invited all of the stage crew on, as well as William Ivey Long, Rupert Holmes, John Kander, Anna Louizos, and some others I wouldn't recognize. When the producer doing the talking (some old guy... not sure who) mentioned that Scott Ellis was in LA and couldn't make it, a lady in the orchestra section held up a blackberry and yelled that she was on the phone with him right now. Rob Ashford mysteriously didn't get mentioned or appear onstage... kinda like how he didn't get the Tony Awards he deserved the past two years. Although I'm pretty sure I walked past him before the show. Could have been someone else though.

This was my sixth time seeing the show, but my first since before the stagehand strike, and I noticed a few changes since November.

Edward Hibbert's line "I tell you, those f***ing Catholics really know how to put on a show" was delivered without the f word, and thus received a lot less laughter than it used to.

Also, when Ernie Sabella was in the show, Debra Monk said to him something like "the reason you're such a low life is they built you so close to the ground." Today when Gerry Vichi said whatever it was about not wanting to burst Carmen's bubble, her reply was instead something like "all it takes to burst my bubble is one very small prick." A much better line, in my opinion, since it pokes fun at his height and rude behavior and also suggests the running joke about Carmen's honeymoon disappointment.

You really can't have too many doubles entendres about ED and male endowment.
