Cabaret - Manchester

Well i have to say after watching the touring production of Cabaret with Wayne (i cant stop dancing) Sleep and Samantha reality show in i was pretty impressed.

Samantha actually did pretty well as Sally, she is to young however and her inexperience showed during some of the big acting scenes, but shes got a great voice and sang the s**t out of the big numbers.
The supporting cast were very good as were the ensemble and the simple set design worked well and the transitions were smooth.

Sleep however was only OK, he played at great in parts but his accent was appalling and he would come out of a character to ask the audience if they wanted to see him dance!! (to which an audience member shouted NO!, he was not best pleased)

Overall, a pretty good production, it was never going to be as great as the Donmar/54 production, but its still a good night out.
Namo i love u but we get it already....you don't like Madonna

I thought he was quite a good Emcee decades ago at the Strand. I think we've discussed before how Kander & Ebb hated that production though, because it was too dancey.

re: Cabaret - Manchester

Saw this production only a few weeks ago in Liverpool, and was unimpressed. Not that the singing was bad (Samantha was particularly good), but the acting was appalling throughout, most of the audience laughed throughout the scene where she talks about having the abortion. And Wayne Sleep... well most of his lines were unintelligable.

However it was a slick and sexy looking show and will no doubt do well for the rest of its tour.

I didn't see the 80s revival with Wayne Sleep but I do have the recording and he sounds like he's doing a bad impersonation of Joel Grey.

I too was impressed. I felt so bitter about Sam as Sally, but once act two was over came out eating my words. My boyrfriend was particularly happy as he was afraid I'd complain throughout lol! I think Sleep was okay the Emcee, worked with the audience well, but I've always preferred the Emcee a lot sexier, which Sleep CANNOT by ANY means deliver, haha! The set was a huge improvement from teh London production, looked a lot more Cabaret, although it couldve been a lot grittier. What I liked when it was in the Lyric was the grittiness of the sets, but disliked the abstractness (did I make up a word there?) of the sets. So combine the grittiness from teh Lyric, and the sets from the tour and I think they'd be great! It seemed a lot more typical Cabaret than when it was in London, and a lot tighter too. However Cliff kept losing his accent, but who cares, he was yummy! :P
