If a High School or Community Theatre buys the rights to this show, do you get the original material, or the revival with all the cuts and the addition of "Maybe This Time"? My school is doing this next year and I'm curious as to which one we will be doing.

It depends on what your school wants. (I think)
There is the original script and the 1987 revival script available. The recent Roundabout revival script isn't available yet.

And the 1998 revival if you buy the book. :)
I really, really like that book.

Me too! I like the picture with the Emcee and Cliff at the end. It's so... dark and scary! But in a good way. :)

Oooh! I like your avatar, luvtheEmcee!
Where'd you get it? Is it from Cabaret?

I'm looking for a Cabaret picture. :)
And the pic is from the movie.
It's the one of Joel Grey giving the camera that scary smile in the 'Tomorrow Belongs to Me' number.
I'm looking for it because I saw a thread on a forum called 'Top 10 scariest smiles in movie history'. :)

*just got a brainstorm for I Don't Care Much*
It could have the MC come onstage dressed like CLIFF!
And then he/she sings and strokes Sally comfortingly.
So s/he's basically saying to Sally 'Cliff doesn't love you. He seems like it, but all he cares about is paying the rent and his novel. He wouldn't care if you left. He's too far gone to love anyone, ja? Stay with us instead...'
And Sally, like her naive, trusting self, believes the Emcee.
*has just given self the chills*

I just got back from a nursing home and I put on my Cabaret CD and sang for the people there! They loved me! ^_^
I'm a huge fan of the movie, and am doing the show in May... but I can't get a hold of the script/CD... if anyone has the script could they send it to me?
But if not, how much do they differ, besides the non-abortion-ness... and without a few songs...?

Um, noy much, except for Sally sings Cabaret before Cliff leaves but after the abortion in the 98 revival.
She vaugely knows what she did is going to ruin the relationship, but she just doesn't think hard enough to realize that Cliff loves her, I think.

And in the movie Fraulein Schneider and Herr Schultz's romance is replaced with a younger, more beautiful couple.

What are your favorite actors/actresses who did Cabaret?
I like Alan Cumming, Joel Grey, Natasha Richardson, Christina Pawl, Mary Louise Wilson, and Leenya Rideout.
Predictable ones for me -

My mom said that her favorite one was Michael O' Donnel (Bobby) because he was cute.
Max von Essen opens TONIGHT as Emcee in 'Cabaret' at Sacramento's Music Circus. Their production is based on the 1987 Broadway Revival.
Max as Emcee
I remember hearing about this a long time ago, and wishing I could see it. He looks GOOD.
My friends were at the dress rehearsal last night and they said that he stole the show.

Ah, wunderbar!
Here's a line from our production that I think applies to Max.
"In here life is beautiful! The GIRLS are beautiful! Your HOST is beautiful! Even the orchestra is beautiful!"
ha, too bad they didn't say the host bit in the revival; would've gotten him some cheers many-a time.
