Posted: 8/23/05 at 12:21amTheatrebabe, Michael York's character is essentially the same in the show. However, Helmut Griem's character is not in the play. There is an entire subplot cut out of the movie which involves the woman running the boarding house and a Jewish produce man. It is somewhat paralleled in the movie because with Helmut Griem and his lover, there is some of the same skepticism and reluctance to the Jewish nationality of each of them, but I guess the movie thought a younger couple would work better. The movie is very different from the show and both are great, but I prefer the show.

Posted: 8/23/05 at 4:19pmMichael York's character was English instead of American in the movie.
re: Cabaret-- a Discussion#229
Posted: 8/23/05 at 4:35pmIt balances, since in the movie Sally Bowles is American and in the play she is English. :o)

And now a joke.
I met a very beautiful young lady yesterday. She is SO beautiful...so charming... so lovely, I have only said yesterday "I want you for my wife!" And she said "Your wife? What would she want with me?"

Okay. I'm a new CABARET fan. And I'm finding all these different versions so damn confusing.
So I was wondering what was the youngest age to get in at the recent revival of Cabaret, and what was the recommended age? I know it was a night club setting, where alcohol was serves. So I was curious.

Well, I don't think there was one - other than a normal show.

Every show has a recommended age. Chicago is over 12, DRS is 11, Wicked is 8 Just to name a few.
And they have an age limit to get into the theatre, which is usually 4 years old.

That's what I mean.
I don't think it was anything out of the ordinary.

Was Cabaret more sexual than Chicago??
The costumes look equally as sexual to Chicago's costumes. And Chicago has some sexual moments.
So just curious if Cabaret was more sexual?

Cabaret had more nudity.
Plus the whole Two Ladies seen...was worse than anything in CHICAGO.

Hmmm. Interesting.
Although Chicago insinuates that a orgy is happening when Kitty walks in on her husband with two women and a man.
And in ROXIE dosen't Rox just lay on the stage and Fred comes and lays on top of her, and she moans. i'm pretty sure that happens.
Those are just a few of the raunchy things I love to witness when I visit Chicago..

Yeah but in Cabaret it had the Emcee with Lulu and Bobby (in drag) and they went behind a screen and did all kinds of...poses.
When they were done they went "Oooh! Ahh! Oooh! Ahhh!"
And one of the lyrics is "We switch partners daily to play as we please."

That's lovely.
But can you answer my question I had about the recommended age, etc?

Yes I do, I am sad I missed it.
But I was asking about the ages, out of pure curiousity.

Oh, gosh. I don't know that it's concrete. I guess thirteen or fourteen is safe, but use your judgement based on the individual - and on the particular production.
I think the revival was far more sexually charged than the current Chicago production is, though.

when do Cliff and Bobby kiss?
and I suggest that if they're open mature theatre kids, who know that it's a raunchy show, with a lot of "contrevarsial content" then I'd say you can bring a 12-13 year old... but otherwise, I'd say at least 14 to 15 if they're mature... but it depends on the person...
re: Cabaret-- a Discussion#249
Posted: 9/3/05 at 12:02amThey kiss right before 'Mein Herr' (in the revival)
