Yeah, a couple weeks ago she announced that she was leaving and about a week ago, they said Teal was taking over. Expect to see Caissie in the 2010 Toronto production.
Yes, Caissie left on Sunday the 11th. I heard it was a doctor's orders because she's been having some major problems with her voice and needs throat surgery. =/ But if that is the case or whatever the case may be, she's gotta do what she gotta do. I respect her privacy. I heard she was an amazing Elphaba, it would be awesome if she gets to return to the role again. I hope whatever the throat issue is, that it doesn't affect her career. She's a talented performer and I wish her well.
I remember way back when she was playing Tammy in the Toronto Hairspray ensemble she was having vocal problems. Apparently when she played Penny on Broadway she was out regularly. Hopefully she will be able to play, and they will offer her, Elphaba in the 2010 Toronto production as she grew up not far from the city.
not a wicked fan by any stretch, but from what ive "heard" caissie delivers some of the best vocals in wicked- ever. she really has such a beautiful voice- i really hope she gets better soon- it was a very abrupt departure.
I was going to post a review earlier, but I kept forgetting. Glad this thread reminded me. I had bought tickets a few weeks ago for May 11th, which was supposed to be Megan Hilty's last performance. Shortly after I heard that she had extended for a week, and about a week ago it was announced that the 11th would be Caissie's last performance.
I was lucky enough to be exposed to theater at an early age, and have seen many professional shows that I have loved. The performance I saw Caissie give on Sunday night is one of the best I have seen. She completely inhabited the role, so much more than any of the other Elphabas I've experienced. I'm the first to admit that Wicked has a lot of faults... the book is creaky, the score does sometimes not fully satisfy, etc. But, on Sunday, I felt that I saw a truly transforming piece of theater because of Caissie's performance.
So, if she does take over when the show moves to Toronto, RUN, do not walk to see her.
just wanted to add that if you can find some sound of her high riff at the end of Wizard and I- ("favorite team!") from her last show, youll know what im talking about.
BrianIdol if the Toronto production happens, I would say the Canon Theatre (providing the Mirvishes can use it in 2010 after all this Dancap drama). It looks like the LA production goes to San Francisco for a year, meaning that it would arrive in Toronto in early 2010. At that time I would assume that Dirty Dancing will still be at the Royal Alex and there is a good chance that Sound of Music might still be playing at the Princess. Plus the Canon is a big theatre and the tour fit nicely into it.
SF is NOT for just a year. It's an open ended run. The Chicago production would be more likely to move as it's closing. I do know about the second tour, but I think the final leg of the "second tour" will be Toronto open ended.
Have they announced a closing date for Chicago yet? Or will it just wrap up at the end of the year?
I remember reading that that physical production would be the one moving to Toronto, not the SF one, which I also thought was very much an open-ended run.
"Have they announced a closing date for Chicago yet? Or will it just wrap up at the end of the year? "
I've heard it's contracted through Jan. 2009. I also heard spring 2009 - who knows? And then Stephanie J. Block threw me off at the show on Sunday during her speech for Annaleigh - she said that Annaleigh would be going to Chicago for their last 3 months, which would mean this August it would be closing (which coincidently is how long Lisa Brescia is staying in Chicago...). hmm.
